Mermaids, August 1960

Well, I very nearly lied when I entitled today's post, but there really IS a mermaid in this first picture. Barely. Otherwise, it's a nice view of the lagoon; notice the Monorail coming at us almost straight on. And check out the crowds over by the Fantasyland Autopia, good grief! To the left, the Matterhorn chalet, and way in the distance is the hipped roof of Fantasyland Station.

There's a (slightly) better look at a merm, working on her tan. The merms were always working on their tans!

With all this warm weather flitting about these United States at the moment, all that water sure looks inviting. Ahhhhhh....

Ditto that Nanook, 119 here on Saturday.

The water does look inviting. Those poor girls. How it must have looked to have a lovely even tan on your torso and white legs. Such dedication.

Yeah, these pictures were just what I needed on a hot, muggy morning. I want to jump through the screen and swim with the merms!

Nanook, after three 100+ degree days, the thought of diving into that (unheated) lagoon is extremely appealing. Oh yeah, and there's mermaids!

Jeez, Alonzo, do you live in Vegas or something? I thought 106 was bad. And I never thought about the mermaids and their tanning problem.

Melissa, hopefully wild mermaids are not too territorial, and they will welcome you to their "school"!

I feel lucky. It's been nice here in Santa Cruz all week and packed with tourists. It's been consistently in the 80s with crystal blue skies. A few times the coastal breeze came in the late afternoon to cool things down for the evening. I love heat, but past the mid-90s is a bit much for me.

Love the first pic. The Motor Boat Cruise waterways look empty. Wonder if it was closed.
