Toy Train, 1958

It's time for another "anything goes Saturday" installment here on GDB!

Today's photo is from 1958, and features a dapper little kid (what do you think, three years old?) who is absolutely delighted with his cool toy train. Dad has plunked a 4' by 8' piece of plywood down in the backyard to provide a suitable flat surface for the model locomotive. It looks like a pretty large gauge (I dunno, "O" gauge? I really don't know much about that stuff), with some serious heavy-duty track.

If I ever got into model railroading, I'd be one of those obsessive types who would want mountain trestles, realistic lakes, tunnels, and all the most elaborate stuff! But I'm not sure I'd be having as much fun as this kid is having.

I would guess this is a Lionel set (yes, O gauge). The accessories seem to also be of that make. its all worth a pretty penny now, I'd wager!

What an adorable boy and a great shot - even the train in movement!
Keep doing what you doing ~ I so enjoy your postings.
I too have dredged up some images from the 50's and 60's from our family photo archive.
Give me a visit sometime at thriftshopcommando.blogspot.com.

I had that exact train set. Yes, it's a Lionel. My Dad made a board that would slide from under the bed with little casters.

Cool! The trestle even has a little "Lionel" sign on the side of it. But why does the trestle lead to nowhere? Is it not attached to the rest of the track or did this little boy like seeing things crash?

Hi. This is my first time posting in your comments section. You're photo images of Disneyland are amazing. And that's an understatement.
The accessory mentioned in the toy train photo looks like a Lionel barrel loader accessory and not a trestle. I love Postwar Lionel. It brings back a lot of Christmas memories.
