Beautiful Castle, November 1955

I have darn few slides from 1955; in fact the batch that I have just scanned might be the last of what I own. Today's images don't show anything earth-shattering, but they are beauties anyway.

It's late afternoon on a November day... the sun probably set at around 5 o'clock.  I really love this view from in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, with people coming and going across the bridge. The warm sunlight really makes the castle glow, and judging by the coats and sweaters, the air had a nice autumn snap to it.

I should have zoomed in even more, but oh well. That lady right in the middle of the archway is staring through my soul!

Another angle from slightly earlier is as pretty as a postcard.

Major-

Each one is "pretty as a postcard". And with those lovely earth tones, it feels very Fall-like.

Thanks, Major.

It is nice to see the castle in the colors that were intended - not the current garish, over-saturated hues. And that goes for most of Main Street too. The current imagineers do not understand the concepts of 'Less is More' or 'Gilding the Lily'.

Another popcorn box in the image, lady to the left front....

No crest on the castle's front yet.

The cloudy skies, illuminated Castle and dark reflective waters of the moat make the last image a beauty. What perfection! Thanks, Major.

Wow, how nice of everyone to color-coordinate their clothes for the first picture!

Nanook, nearly all of the slides in this lot were taken late in the day, so I can only assume that our photographer didn’t get to the park until 3 or 4 o’clock - which means there are some too-dark images, but others have that great “golden hour” look.

Graffer, I really wish I understood WHY the castle is so colorful now; in 50 years, it will be day-glo.

Matterhorn1959, little did she know that popcorn boxes like that one would someday sell for well over $100!

K. Martinez, I’m not sure when the crest was added, but the shield was blank for a number of years, I believe. As burned out as I can get looking at pictures of the castle, both of these make me happy.

Melissa, they all got the memo!

I LOVE these! Having grown up in OC, judging by the clouds in the sky I am assuming that earlier in the day there was a bit of marine layer that burned off by this time. I can just feel that cool chill in the air. I love photos that make you feel like you are in them, and I sure wish I could be in this one.

Thank you Major for these particularly experiential photos.
