Pavilion Lanai and Monorail Yellow

I'm still digging through some leftovers, but I think that some of them are pretty darn nice! Like this photo of the Pavilion Lanai from January 5, 1957. The late afternoon sun lights up the thatched-roof building, and it looks great against the cloudy blue sky. I remember the first time somebody pointed out that this building did double duty, with the Main Street gingerbread just visible on the other side... I was amazed! It never occurred to me that the two lands were that close to each other.

Now it's February, 1962... and this might be a somewhat familiar view to some long time readers! I've had two similar shots of the beautiful yellow Monorail from the same lot of photos, and this one was so nice that I couldn't leave it out.

Monorail Yellow seems to be heading for the past, while all the seniors below are heading for the future.

Is that the General Dynamics logo on the subs sign?

Great stuff major. These last few weeks of shots have been incredibly evocative of the feeling of Disneyland!

Whatcha want to bet the people in the monorail shot was part of a tour group of some sort, and the photographer was part of it. I smell business guys & wives.

what does C|||||||D stand for, if anything? It is on the Submarine Voyage sign? Or is that an G, which would be General Dynamics? All the years looking at pictures and being in the park, I notice this for the first time.

Don't worry about "the same old same old" when it comes to Monorails!

Something that attracts me to this era is the excellent color choices made for Tomorrowland, and being the standard bearer for the east side of the park, the Monotrains got all the "cornerstone" colors.

The marketplace today seems chained to neutral colors, plus powder blue and granny-apple green. How about YELLOW guys? Any body remember plain YELLOW??

Yes, that is the General Dynamics logo on the Submarine Voyage sign... I pointed it out when I posted the companions to this photo, but that was months ago so it probably would have been a good idea to do it for this one too!

It does look like a group (busload) of folks are in line together.

And Katella Gate, I like yellow, but know lots of people who don't for some reason. A trip to the mall with my girlfriend showed me an awful lot of vibrant yellow, orange, and green clothing though.

Who ever took that Pavilion Lanai shot knew what they were doing. Besides the wonderful orange setting sun and the couple in the lower left, they used a filter to bring out the blue sky and clouds. That’s a honey of a shot
