Fantasyland From the Tuna Boat, 1957

A pearly gray layer of clouds keeps the sunshine off of Fantasyland, but it still looks cheerful. Crowds were light on this (winter?) day. While I generally think of Disneyland as a moneymaking machine, it is possible that it lost money on slow days like these.

I wanted to zoom in on the Mickey Mouse Club Theater, where we can see the 3-D Jamboree poster on display. Next door you can get a cup of ice-cold Welch's grape juice. Beyond that... no line for Snow White's Scary Adventures!

Why take just one photo from the back of the Pirate Ship when you can take two?

Ahhh, The Mouseketeer 3D Jamboree. Always a fav. And remember kids... "...and by the way, please leave your 3D glasses in the lobby. You see, these glasses were made especially for 3D, and aren't to be used as sunglasses". Drat. I wanted to wear them for the rest of my park visit, and Jimmy Dodd has spoiled my fun.

One can see the tops of Red Wagon Inn, Emporium and City Hall in the distance.

I love the grape shield on Welch's Juice Bar. I think I remember three colors of grape juice available there; red, white and purple.

I wonder when "Snow White's Adventures" officially became "Show White's SCARY Adventures". Was it when New Fantasyland opened?

I remember the three flavors of grape juice. It was the first place I ever encountered red grape, and my life has never been quite the same since...

The sky may be gray, but those flags are so jaunty in the breeze.

@Chuck: YES-! red grape juice. Pure heaven.

@K. Martinez - ya know, in actuality, although usually referred to as: Snow White's Adventures, the signage at the attraction entrance stated: Snow White and Her Adventures. There are numerous images of the entrance beginning on day one to verify that.

And I presume 'Scary' was added for the 1983 New Fantasyland facade - along with Snow White, herself, (although there's some dispute as to when her 'image' actually appeared within the attraction). Who's got a good memory-??

I love that photo. There is nobody there and everyone has a coat or sweater. Must have been rather chilly. Probably off season on a weekday. Wish I could see the MMC film in 3-D. I’ve only seen brief pieces of it.

Nanook, have you seen the film that was shown at the 3D Jamboree? I would love to. Maybe it's on the Mickey Mouse Club "Treasures" DVD…

K. Martinez, it's so funny, I was thinking "THREE colors of grape juice?". Purple, white, and….?? But Nanook and Chuck's comments (below) reminded me that, yes, there was red grape juice too. And as far as I can tell, the name of the attraction WAS changed to the "scary" version in 1983.

Chuck, it sounds like I need to try some red grape juice!

Melissa, the flags do look pretty jaunty, but a gray windy Disneyland is not ideal. Unless it keeps crowds away.

Nanook, I did a bit of research, even checking old ticket books and maps, and don't see a reference to the scary adventure's until '83. Surprisingly, "The E-Ticket" magazine (issue #13) doesn't say.

SundayNight, I am starting to wonder if the MMC 3D Jamboree isn't a "lost" film.

Major-

Oh yes - Red, White & Grape-! Welch's still sells all three types of grape juice - along with other 'flavors'. (And Red has always been my fav).

As for 3D Jamboree, I did see it, eons ago (obviously), so have little memory of the exact content, but do remember enjoying it; in spite of all the anomalies of 3D.

Great photos...I wonder if that poster was ever displayed out front or only at the theater. I believe that 3DJ is NOT a lost film; I think it was shown at the Egyptian 3D fest a couple of years back...

If only I could go back in time with video camera in hand, just for one ride on SW's Adventures, that's all I'm asking.

The attraction didn't become officially known as Snow White's Scary Adventures until 1983, but as early as the Fall 1973 guidebook it was referred to as "Snow White's Adventures (Scary)."
