Matterhorn & Skyway, July 1961

You can't ride the Skyway anymore; it's sad but true. There are many theories as to why; I tend to favor the "proliferation of idiots" theory. Anyway, we can still ride it in our imaginations - when I'm driving on the freeway I often close my eyes and pretend that I am high over Tomorrowland with the wind in my face and loud truck horns blaring.

Here we've just left the Tomorrowland Skyway terminal; boy-howdy, just look at that crowd down below. Each person has a story to tell. A long, boring story involving Tupperware.

We've nearly crossed over the Sub lagoon, and are approaching the Matterhorn; it sure looks great with the waterfalls turned on full.

Even though a mere two seconds has elapsed, it's time for yet another photo! And you know what? I actually left out two other pictures from the same Skyway trip. You can clearly see the red light that was atop the buckets. When the light was on, it meant that you wanted a beer.

I'm afraid of heights but that was a fun trip (I tried not to look straight down).

Those wall falls are running nicely, only once in while do you see that now-a-days.

Photo #2 is little off focus, but I think thats why I like it so much!

Awesome Post - THANKS!

ROTFLMAO...I started laughing so hard that I almost spilled my water on my keyboard! Closing your eyes while driving on the freeway? I could see you doing it, LOL! Too funny!!! Now, I take offense at the Tupperware remark - Tupperware is the bomb! :-)

I feel cheated. I never got a beer while riding the Skyway.

Boy oh boy, the Park sure was crowded that day.

Connie's right, I never go a beer while riding either. (Dang it)
It is really a shame the Skyway was taken out. Is there anyway to go back and remove the dunder heads that made these decisions.

As much as I loved the Skyway, the cocktail service wasn't very good. The red light never worked for me either.

Also, notice the stone bridge in the middle picture. I think these features were lost in the remodeling of the MH.

Want to hear MY tupperware story? It's more exciting than freeway driving with your eyes shut.

JG, that stone bridge is still there, but the stone bridge on the other side (facing down towards the Hub) was removed and is now just rockwork.

@Tokyo, you're right, thanks.

I liked those bridges, couldnt remember if both were taken.

Glad we have one at least.
