Mark Twain and More, August 1958

Here's an interesting (and different) shot of the Mark Twain, taken from Tom Sawyer Island! This photo would have worked great as a stereo slide, but even so there is a nice feeling of depth, with the dark trees in the foreground, the girl standing on "ambush rock", and then the grand sternwheeler herself, complete with Vesey Walker and the Disneyland band performing on the bow. And after looking at ten zillion photos of the Mark Twain, this is the first time I've noticed the headlamp! D'oh. It's like the ones you see on the steam trains only much, muuuuch bigger.

This photographer really knew how to compose a picture... here is another one that would have worked will in 3-D. You've got the white picket fence up front, and then various crates, casks and bundles, then the Columbia herself, all framing a lovely scene with an Indian War Canoe on the big river. Beautiful!

Ah think we've seen the girl in the top pic before haven't we? She's standing on "Ambush Rock" LOL. Maybe she's sneering at the 'Twain 'cause they blew her ambush, big time.

That kid better watch it. If she falls off Ambush Rock, the lawyers are going to sweep in and remove all the rocks and replace them with cork and rubber.

A great pair of photos! I just noticed that "head lamp" on my last couple of trips to the park. It is HUGE, also, well, its got some rust holes forming along the seams.

Please! No more 3D pictures! I just saw "Up" in 3D and my eyes are still crossed from the glasses.

No worries VDT, they asked Pressler if they should spend the $200 to fix it, and he commissioned a team of experts who never did any work on such things for only $300,000. They found that it had never failed and hurt anybody before, so they decided to defer maintenance and it must be fine. :)

Cool pic, with the band on board! They seem to be taking a break, the band leader has his arms crossed.
