POSTERAMA 5

It's attraction poster time again! Today I've got photos of two classic silk-screened posters from my collection.

This beautiful Matterhorn poster is the very first poster I ever bought; I was at a Howard Lowery auction, and was determined to bring home... something. The price was not too bad, especially by today's standards...

I just love the beautiful, dynamic design! The blues and whites really give an impression of snowy mountain heights, while your eye is drawn to the bobsleds and their riders with vivid yellows and reds.

And now we jump ahead to 1967, with the Peoplemover! Sponsored by Goodyear ("Go Go Goodyear!"). Two groups of clean cut kids (no hippies!) enjoy the smooth, quiet transportation of the future, taking in the sites from above. I've seen a variation of this poster that had "Tomorrowland" at the bottom instead of "Disneyland" - part of me wishes that I had that one instead. But I'm still pretty happy with this one!

There is a couple of variations of the Matterhorn poster. One in which the last car is not there and one in which the riders are in slightly different poses.

The Peoplemover poster encompasses every memory I have of my childhood trips to Disneyland

Wow Matterhorn, thanks for the info about the variations, I never knew that there were any other versions of that poster! Wish I could see the different examples side by side.

L-O-V-E vintage attraction posters! My earliest memories of the park include the attraction posters on the monorail support columns near the ticket booths.

I love attraction posters. Even ones that are imaginary: here and here

Both entry portals that run under the RR immediately inside the gates had a rotating series of these when I was visiting as a youngster.

Brett Thompson told me that the girl wearing sunglasses was originally a man... I think the ponytail was added to the figure in the back as well... Anyone else ever hear this one?

now that i take a second look at my peoplemover posted i do have that variation you talked about mine says tomorrowland and not disneyland

Chris, that's an interesting story... never heard that one! The other kids seem to be boy/girl pairs, and the ponytail looks so *right* that it's hard to believe that it wasn't always that way. But Brett certainly knows his attraction poster lore!

I love both of these. The Matterhorn ties with Alice as my favorite DL poster. I do miss the posters on the monorail supports: They really built up the anticipation as I checked them out while my parents bought the ticket books! Although I like Downtown Disney a lot, it's a shame that the gradual build-up to entering the park (seeing the Matterhorn, approaching the gates across the parking lot, seeing the attraction posters) is gone forever. Approaching the main entrance from the side just ain't the same. Placing the attaction posters along the route in Downtown Disney could restore a bit of that, though.

i miss the posters on the fence in front of the railroad station as you enter the Park...

i have quite a few of the Tomorrowland poster pins in one of those display frames.

the one poster that i really wish they had made into a pin wasnt to my knowledge, the ATIS poster, which is one of my very favorites

i say BRING BACK THE PEOPLEMOVER! :D
