Aunt Jemima, May 1958

I'm not much of a breakfast person, and am always in too much of a hurry to enjoy a leisurely sit-down breakfast at Disneyland. But I have to admit that a big stack of flapjacks with plenty of butter and maple syrup would really hit the spot!

Who ya gonna call? Aunt Jemima, of course! Here's Auntie J herself, circa 1958. Looks like she's standing in front of the Silver Banjo Barbeque. Even she can't eat pancakes all the time!

There were other Aunt Jemima Pancake Houses around the country, and women portrayed the character for many years, even making appearances at World's Fairs. She was first introduced in 1889 (!), but Jemima unfortunately represented the negatively stereotypical "mammy" that modern day audiences would not find acceptable. Understandably.

Incidentally, this lady is not the same as the one in the photos that Matterhorn1959 posted a while ago (see his pictures here).

This is one of your best; what a great shot; you can also see the side entrance to the Silver Banjo as well. What a beauty!
