Knott's, October 1967

If Knott's Berry Farm's old-west Ghost Town doesn't put you in a frontier mood, nothing will. And every now and then you might feel the need to have your picture taken with a genuine Indian Chief. I wish I knew this fellow's name... he's not Chief Red Feather or Chief Blue Eagle. His costume is a dazzling combo of crimson and turquoise; maybe he is Chief Hollywood. In the background, School Road looks pretty sleepy as the sun begins to head toward the horizon.

I see Paris, I see France... I see someone's underpants! The little stage over at the Calico Saloon is modest compared to Disneyland's Golden Horseshoe. It's almost as if it was added as an afterthought; it seems weird to me that it is way up high, as you can see in this photo.

Major, that looks like Chief White Eagle, but I'm not 100% positive. The dancers in the Calico Saloon used to dance way up above the crowd on the inside balcony (and also on the bar itself). That would explain the angle of the pic. I think it wasn't until the eighties that they knocked out the wall behind the bar and put a stage back there.

TokyoMagic!, thanks for the info! Red Feather, White Eagle, Blue Eagle, I am sensing a pattern here. Thanks also for the info about the saloon... I don't recall if I have ever set foot in that building, as many times as I used to go when I was a kid.

Melissa, it's OK, but what if she was wearing a babushka?

K. Martinez, that picture has a kind of Toulouse-Letrec feel to it! If only Knott's served absinthe.

Last Summer they brought back a couple of can-can dancers and redid the show. They are doing the same thing again this Summer. It was a pretty good show and the dancers were very good.
