That Fabulous Monorail! July 1961

We've seen a lot of Monorail photos of the last few years, but this one is exceptionally nice in my opinion. There's something about the combination of elements that all come together to make this a thing of joy! The colorful flags, the Skyway buckets overhead, the Yacht Bar, and bits of the Castle, Matterhorn, and Sub Lagoon...what could be better?

That's a postcard composition if there ever was one!

Many, many thanks for your work. Browsing your blog's archives has brought back to me so many great memories of the Park from the 50's and 60's!

I agree with Mr. Wiggins - it does look like a great postcard! It's also interesting to me how shiny, new and 'high tec' the monorail looks next to those Skyway buckets.

Neat to see the Yacht Bar right behind the Monorail.

Hi Major, Well, this photo is so nice I've been using it as desktop wallpaper all day. Since I've been staring at it, I have a question.

Where do you think this was taken from?

The only place I could think is from the Monorail station, but that seams off a little? It's almost as if it was taken while standing on one of the Subs or am I just twisted around.

THANKS!!!

vintage disneyland tickets, I think you might be right, the photo could have been taken from either the loading dock just before you boarded a sub, or maybe they snapped it while they were standing on a sub! Look at my photo from September 1, '07, I can't see any other place it could have been taken from....
