700th Post!

This blog passed its 2 year anniversary about a month ago, without comment from me. But now I can proudly say that I am an official member of the 700 club. No, not THAT 700 club - - I'm talking about the club reserved for bloggers with 700 posts! Like most of you, I've only heard rumors of this club. It's one of those magnificent places - - unseen by mere mortals; walnut-paneled and book-lined, oriental carpets and old master paintings everywhere, with bottles of the finest scotch, whisky and sherry in cut crystal decanters, and stuffed animals heads staring at you from every wall. In other words, classy! It makes "Club 33" look like El Pollo Loco.

I am offering up a few cherce images for you on this glorious occasion, like this neat shot from the Crane Bathroom of Tomorrow. These kooky flamingos (or are they ostriches?) appear to be made of various bits and pieces of plumbing, which only makes sense. If you peruse the souvenir booklet, it looks like boys and girls could turn on spouts of water for a playful, soggy effect. And we all know that the sound of running water makes people have to "go", which helps drive home the message that plumbing is darn important.

This is one of the better slides of the Flying Saucers in my collection! I especially like the kid to the center-right, he is clearly zipping along in his hovering craft. I suspect that he has alien blood in him. I'm not so sure that the mom with her daughter in her lap is doing so well, though. Too much weight and you'd sit there like a lump. Personally, I'd like to get an inflatable air mattress and glide around on that blue surface... like floating on a swimming pool.

Keeping with the bathroom theme established in that first photo, here's an unusual sign directing anxious guests to the pottys. This sign is ALL BUSINESS, as such a sign should be. Hand-lettered too. I am pretty sure that this was located somewhere beneath the Tomorrowland load area for the Skyway. I wonder if that tile pattern intentionally echoed the Clock of the World? Probably not, but it doesn't matter because it's cool.

Thanks as always to all of my great readers, especially to those who take the time to comment. The comments keep me going when I start to feel that I can't write another word about the Pirate Ship or the Dance Circle! If possible, I hope to reach 1000 posts someday. No promises though!

Congratulations! An excellent set of photographs today--especially the rest rooms... even though the souvenir wall maps used "restrooms" at this time. ;)

I;ve got a little secret for you Major - you've been my "Home Page" for well over a year. I launch Safari every morning and the first thing I see is Gorillas.

Thanks for all of the great images and congratulations on our 700th post!

I hope you're around until you hit 7000, it's great escapism, a fun read and I'm always seeing old things in new ways.

Congrats Major. You, Daveland, and Patrick are part of my daily ritual. I always enjoy your comments and pictures. Just a hunch on those birds... could they be cranes?

Happy 700th, Major! Keep up the good work! Today's excellent post is a fine example of why I'm a regular reader. I get a daily dose of early O.C. theme park eye-candy, and I also learn things! Thanks, as always.

Congratulations Major! The work you do here inspires all! I may not have traveled out west very much, and certainly not in some of the time periods you feature, but I feel as if I have been there all the same because of your extraordinary articles.

Congratulations on 700 posts! I really enjoy your blog, but don't comment much. You don't think the birds are Cranes do you? :-)

Congratulations on your milepost! I check in here on a daily basis, but don't always take the time to comment. Well, that's changing now!

Except, what with all that running water, I really have to excuse myself!

You were the first blog I subscribed to and first, and still number one favorite, Disneyland blog. Thank you for all the work, great photos and play-by-play.

Thanks for all the great posts, and all the fantastic pictures! I hope you continue to post for a long time to come because I enjoy your site so much. I have some rather nasty cervical spine issues that I am afraid will one day preclude any more trips to Disneyland in person, so sites like yours are invaluable to me because I am collecting as many images etc. as I can preparing for that awful day when I will no longer be able to visit the park in person. More than that, however, is that when I am no longer able to go, your pictures will help me enjoy the Disneyland of my youth. "Walt's Disneyland", as it were. Such a wonderful gift you have given without even knowing it, and I wanted to take this moment to thank you from the bottom of my heart.
