Main Street Scenes, June 1960

Today's offering consists of three nice images of vehicles that you would see on Main Street USA.

First up is this nice shot of the Surrey. Look, it has fringe on top. A whole family is starting their ride around Town Square, up Main Street, and back again. The little girls up front look like they are having a swell time! To the right, the Fire Truck is also getting ready to go.

The Omnibus was my favorite way to see Main Street. Like most people, I ran right to the upper level to enjoy an unusual perspective. I remember looking in one of the windows and I SWEAR I saw somebody inside, wish I could recall which building it was. Maybe there is some sort of storage or offices upstairs on Main Street?

And finally, the Horse Drawn Streetcar makes its way towards the hub. To the right, the Timex store, the Silhouette Studio, the China Closet, and then the INA Carefree Corner. It looks like the "June gloom" has decended upon Southern California with a vengeance! With gas prices the way they are, we will all be commuting to work via horse drawn streetcars again someday...

Great shots major! That first one is classic -- the faces of the kids in the surrey... the kids running... the guys studying the vehicle in front of the fire house, and the hat on the kid in the passenger seat... Talk about a photo that tells a story of what it feels like to be arriving at Disneyland on the morning of a summer day!!

Yeah, another great post. That first picture is amazing.

Also, that last one, looking towards the hub looks so empty without the Matterhorn there.

I'm with you on the Omnibus. Always a great perspective of Main Street riding on the top deck.

Great pics!

Yes, it was either Charles Ridgway or Van Arsdale France that said they had an office on the second floor...can't remember which, though...

Anytime you call the park to make a reservation for dinner or to leave comments, you are talking to someone on Main Street. The office is on the second floor by the gates to backstage.

Beautiful pictures! I think I'll go to the Park today, and think about the new Red Cars soon to be tooling through DCA.
