Frontierland, September 1963

Frontierland is the largest "land" at Disneyland, so I guess it only stands to reason that there would be more photos of it than any other. There was just something about it that compelled guests to get their cameras out and start shooting.

This lovely view shows a subtle transition from Fantasyland and the hub to the gateway into Frontierland. When I think of the old west I often think of endless grassy plains, or even deserts, but Disneyland's frontier is generally a more verdant landscape, perhaps more like what you might have found around the Mississippi 150 years ago. Favorite detail: the two gals with their cowboy hats, probably posing for an unseen photographer.

I can't have too many pictures of the Gonzalez Trio, though I wish this one wasn't so dark (I'll pretend it is from the Silhouette Shop on Main Street). I've seen this little bandstand in a number of photos, but this is the first (I think) in which I've seen it being used. Not a lot of room to move around, but at least it provided some shade!

"The Gonzalez Trio 10:45 AM-6:00 PM". Wow, talk about running a tight ship. (Why not start at 11:00 AM-?)

And, boy, is that one long set they play, or what? :)

Nanook, I wondered the exact same thing!

Rich T., I can't imagine that they performed that whole time without a number of breaks. 6+ hours in a row would outdo even the longest Grateful Dead show!

Since I already left an "AWESOME" comment on Dave's post. I will leave a VERY COOL! here.

Only allowed 1 AWESOME per day. Oops!

That Gonzalez Trio pic is great. I love the way they all gathered around one microphone and managed to sing and play 3 guitars. Wish I knew more about them.

Wow, both of these are mighty cool pictures.

Wow! Love those gals in the cowboy hats, and the waterside scene is so cool.

The trio pic is neat, with that vintage Shure microphone! Was the microphone there when there weren't performances?

I really want that singer's dress! It must be cool to walk around in a skirt that takes up a whole gazebo.
