Hoagies, July 25 1961
Some people call them "subs", but I call them "hoagies". It's a throwback to my years living in Pennsylvania! Today I have two views of the hoagies at Disneyland.
How can you look at this scene and NOT want to ride this attraction? Maybe the long line kept some people away, that's understandable. Claustrophobia is another good reason, sure. And hydrophobia and icthyophobia (fear of water and fish), those are good too. Wait a minute, I have all of those phobias, I'm never going on this ride!
See ya, suckers! While you're down there, terrified, I'll be up here dry and unmolested by fish.

Superbly staged scene isn't it? Just lookin' at it - I want on! The sub looks extra fabulous in the dock pic. We're boarding right after these nice people have disembow- dissemin- diss an' barked- oh, after they get off.
Now some call 'em Nemos. I call 'em Quiznos. Yum!
beauties today, Major! and a side order of fries, well, one fry anyway (Monorail Yellow)....YAY!!
yes, we Pennsylvanias love our hoagies :D
happy easter to those who celebrate this holiday
David - My High School used to sell hoagies as a fundraiser; I can still remember getting up at the crack to put those things together in the school cafeteria. That kind of stuff would never fly today! Nice shot of the Ethan Allen; doesn’t he sell furniture?!?
as always, i love the journey through liquid space. the submarine ride ( in either of its forms) is a must ride. yes, cramped space and evil vile fish around every bend, however, where else can you see mermaids. mermaids?
I don't mind the dark, water, closed spaces, diesel fumes, Freudian cigars, tunnels, or unnaturally effervescent water. But I do have a terrible case of Megaloguttocalamarophobia. (the irrational fear of giant rubber sea squids).
Lived in Maine for a while, and we called'm torpedoes.
The Nemo ride is OK but I sure miss the old Submarine voyage. And BTW, when you run out of images, do what the Orange County Register is doing with the Peanuts comic strip on Sundays. Even though Schultz is no longer with us they are republishing his past strips and calling them "Classic Peanuts". Do the same with your past blogs and call them "classics".
Love the hoagie reference. I was from Oakmont, near Pittsburgh before we resettled in SoCal. My sister claims that we saw the live mermaids that frolicked in the lagoon from our portholes on the Skipjack, but my memory has faltered. I do remember being awed by the dreaded barracuddas. Tether lines and all. Mucho thanks for the posts.
