Fantasyland, '58

Welcome to Fantasyland, 1958! Never mind the "57" in the file name, I screwed up.

Anyway, here's sis riding a pack mule... I can't quite read her expression. Maybe she's going to cry. Or laugh. Or she's just squinting in the sunlight. Who knows. The good thing is that if a spontaneous game of basketball breaks out, she can referee.

Here she is again, being the perfect big sis by patiently helping her little brother out of the Dumbo vehicle. Behind them is a Fantasyland eatery that I don't know the name of in spite of it being in a zillion photos. And might I also add: poster alert!

Yes, I see that same "pasted on" smile when I take pictures of my niece and nephew. They can't help it, they've been trained to do it! The kid is strapped onto his wooden horse, a white one from the days when they weren't all white. In fact, I've never really bought the theory that everyone wants to ride a white horse, somebody in Imagineering came up with that bright idea and they are sticking to it.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that restaurant and it's twin that sat between Alice and Mr. Toad were called Fan 1 and Fan 2. Fan being short for Fantasyland. The one in your second photo was removed to allow access to "The Big Thunder Trail" and the other was removed during the 1983 rehab of Fantasyland. The Mad Hatter Shop now sits in it's place.

P.S. The Fan 1 and Fan 2 names were only used among employees. The guide books listed both restaurants as "Character Food Stands."

Did the food have that much character? ;)

LOL Maj, referee. I'll tell ya the expression on her face in one term: saddlesore.

Neat pics. Ridin' at Rainbow Ridge looks like fun there, Fantasyland actually looks kinda cute in the Dumbo pic and you gotta love the Carousel and well trained cute kids.

You may not like the Carousel horsies bein' all white, all the time, but Goldfrapp might. Now if you meet her, you have a pickup line. Yes, the pics, commentary and comments are all uniquely valuable at this blog. :)

The 1958 McKimm Map lists the eatery as "SNACK BAR".

Alison Goldfrapp is a spoiled brat! ;-)

Just kidding, I like her albums, and even that song...

Yes but you wouldn't mind going with her to Disneyland now wouldya? ;) Gosh 1958 > Disneyland > Goldfrapp, oh the temporal and culture clash. We're so diverse aren't we? Yes. We must face it. We're amazing!

the colors in the first photo have sort of a brownish, dreamy quality, and it reminds me of those ones you can get nowadays in parks of the Old West saloon where we dressed up like gun mauls with pistols and a bottle of Jack Daniels (at least, that is what im holding!)

the little boy is still so proper; aside from that one where he stuck his tongue out, he has been a perfect gentleman!
