Matterhorn, October 1967

Today I have two nice shots of everybody's favorite fake mountain!

There it is, the Matterhorn, covered in snow and ice year-round because of its extreme height. Many little details make this picture fun for me, including the Skyway, the Coca Cola sign, and the Peoplemover vehicles. The Peoplemover opened on July 2nd, and yet I get the feeling it might not be running in this October photo. Anyway, it's just bright and sunny and colorful, which is always a plus.

Now we're on the Fantasyland side of the mountain, with Dumbo's Flying Elephants in the foreground (again, possibly not open?). Somehow the Anaheim smog adds a dreamlike misty quality to the Matterhorn. Yay smog!

I always like seeing the PeopleMover without any railings around the individual cars. I don't think that lasted very long.

At first glance, the guy pushing the stroller in the first photo looked like he was wearing mouse ears, but it's just two heads!

My very first visit to Disneyland as a child was in July 1967. I had no idea that Tomorrowland, the People Mover, etc. were all brand new and had just opened. I do remember everything was very shiny and clean. And my only disappointment was running through Main Street to get to the House of the Future -- to find that it had already been removed!

gorgeous sunshine...such a contrast between the bright day and a gloomy one. I vote SUNSHINE! Plus my favorite Skyway cars and the gorgeous Peoplemover trains... All smiles here!

Looks like the Peoplemover has rather low (nobody) ridership. It was always neat to have an entire Peoplemover car to yourself.

The first image reminds me of the days I went to Disneyland and would have a Moonburger before lunch rush on the Matterhorn side of the Coke Terrace. I loved watching and listening to the bobsleds careen down the Matterhorn as the Monorail and Skyway would glide overhead. If I remember correctly the menu listed beverages as “Liquid Fuel” and food items as “Solid Fuel” at one time.

I still miss the Skyway. The Matterhorn just doesn’t seem as cool without it.
