Frontierland, May 1965
Oh boy, the Indian dancers, my favorite. It was probably lots of fun to watch, but it made for a repetitive photo subject. I wish I had the little sign that indicated when the next performance would be, however!
Over in Nature's Wonderland, the Rainbow Desert was all rainbowy and stuff. The stone mesas and natural arches not only looked cool, but they helped to hide your train from the train that was just behind you. Oh, those Imagineers were sneaky!

and Rainbow Caverns was even more rainbowier and stuffier!
Lucky for guests the Indians had a lot of ceremonies. If you missed it well, another one would come along like clockwork. The Chief is supervising while this fellow is out there with bells on. I like his feathered headdress it really conveys the spirit of a wild birds' feathers.
Did the Indians mingle with the guests after their performances, does anyone remember? It occurs to me that I dont recall seeing any photos of folks posing with them.
What sort of a show was it, just a dance or was it a demonstration with explanations about Indian customs and stuff like that? I wish I had seen it!
Happy Easter to those who celebrate this blessed day
Chiana, I wonder if the more experienced Indian performers were bitchy to the newbies? "You call that dancing? ". I'd like their headdresses if they had ostrich feathers dyed bright red, pink and blue.
I don't know for sure, but I believe that the show did involve narration (I've seen photos of a performer with a microphone) to help folks understand what was going on. And they did mingle! I have a number of photos of them posing with guests, but here is just one example. Happy Easter to you, too!
My Dad was absolutely enthralled with the Indian Dancers. I have home movies he took in August of 1955 of Disneyland and he used a lot of the film on them. He took movies of other things that day too, but a lot of the Indian Dancers. No sound though.
I remember the Indian Village and Dance Circle. This was an attraction my parents would drag us to when what we really wanted to do was go on “the rides”. We were just too young to appreciate it at the time.
Those Imagineers were real artists......not like today's Imagineers.
Probably lots of great Imagineers now too but their outlets are often restricted to window dressing and franchise or franchise-like stuff of often weak taste because there is no Walt, just way overpaid execs and upper management underpaying employees and bringing little to nothing of creative value to Disney. Basically.
I remember the dancers, there was an announcer, but i don't remember what he said.
I think we were too antsy to sit for the show. It's funny to think of the dancers quarreling, Major.
Thank you for the pics of the Rainbow desert. Always a favorite part of the lamented Mine Train. too cool.
and the subscribe box is back, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
