Anything Goes Saturday - Around the USA

For today's "Anything Goes Saturday" I am presenting a mix of images from the U.S!

This young lady is enjoying a visit to Prairie Dog Town, Texas. Who knew that prairie dogs used conestoga wagons! It's still around too, much to my surprise. From what I can glean off the interwebs, Prairie Dog Town is in Lubbock, and was established in the 1930's. ; you can "... marvel at the cute critters with their intricate tunnels and listen to their unique bark that gave them the name Prairie Dog." It was recently named the 5th most popular tourist attraction in Lubbock. What are the other 4? I have no idea!

I really love this 1956 photo of a mother and two boys marveling at the beauty of the city of Miami and Biscayne Bay. As one might imagine, the skyline has changed considerably in the intervening 56 years. About the only structure I could easily identify that is still there is the tower to the right, the "News Tower" (home of the Miami Daily News back then), which was built in 1925, and is now known as the  "Freedom Tower".

Here's another wonderful photo, featuring a happy trio on their way to Catalina island. I especially like the gentleman's style! I am guessing that the picture was taken around 1950.

The Miami Beach photo reminds me of when the Ricardos and the Mertzes went to Florida and stayed at the Eden Roc Hotel (which is still standing today!)

Had to have been before '59, anyway! I always find the 48-state flag jarring with its perfect grid of stars.

"Mother and two boys?" The "boy" on the left is wearing a skirt!

Hats need to make a comeback. Heck, good-taste-in-general needs to make a comeback!

TM!, I think I am the only person on the planet who does not love Lucy!

Melissa, it is certainly years before 1959.

Anon.... oh man! I think I've looked at this photo so many times that I stopped actually *seeing* it. In my brain it was two boys, but you are clearly right!

Rich T, I am wearing a Budweiser trucker hat, does that count?

The photo of the people going to Catalina on the Big White Steamer (may she rest in peace) brings back so many happy memories of going over each Summer in the 1950's with Mom, Dad, Brother and Grandparents. This photo reminds me of the way my parents and grandparents dressed.

But they kept a large fish on ice in their hotel bathtub. Wait, it was TWO fish! Did I mention it was the bathtub?

Actually Major, I only love "I Love Lucy" and just some of her early movies. Anything that came after I Love Lucy is very difficult for me to sit through. Oh my gosh, if you haven't seen her version of "Mame," STAY AWAY FROM IT!!!! You have now been properly warned.

The Miami skyline has even changed quite a bit since I was last there in 1978. It’s probably my least favorite American city I've visited.

Love the third image. It’s absolutely awesome on all levels.

Great batch of slides Major! I keep looking at the Catalina photo for some reason -- reminds me of slides my Grandfather took on Anscochrome. Colors had a funny pastel appearance that unfortunately would fade to practically nothing. I like vintage neckties so I'd really like to see that one the man is wearing in the photo in it's entirety.
