Knott's Berry Farm, September 1978

How can 1978 be 34 years ago?  It ain't right! Here are some vintage images of Knott's Berry Farm from the end of the '70's.

"Knott's Old Time Adventures"?! It's almost as if the name of the park had been changed, although I know that isn't true. Still... weird to see that sign. Is that "Montezooma's Revenge" (which opened in '78) in the background?

Here's a great shot looking up "School Road" toward the Timber Mountain Log Ride. You can just see one of the yellow train cars near the end of the street.

Nelle and Belle are a classic part of Knott's. Here they've had fresh paint jobs and look as youthful as ever!

Yes, that's Montezooma's Revenge in the background. I remember when the Timber Mountain Log Ride was called the Calico Log Ride, near same as Calico Mine Ride.

The "Old Time Adventures" part of that sign is always covered over with something else now (usually "America's 1st Theme Park"). I guess they don't want you to think that the park or it's attraction are "Old Timey" anymore. It's a very modernized park now with TGI Fridays and Panda Express. Oh, and attractions that will take you 30 stories into the air......and leave you there for 4 hours.

K. Martinez, somehow I thought that the Log Ride started out at the Timber Mountain Log Ride. But what do I know!

TokyoMagic!, the "Old Time Adventures" part sounds very dated, almost like a prime time variety hour on TV.

Must've been Peach Pantsuit Day.

The pepper trees were a big part of my Knotts memories. Dad lived in the desert for much of his youth and he always commented on them.

Photo no. 2 really brings back memories. thank you Major.

I can imagine the Cedar Fair PR guys' reaction to the thought of using the phrase "Old Time" to describe anything. :)

Love those original Schwartzkopf shuttle loops -- Just enough intensity and thrill without be nauseating. I remember how I sort of objected to the way it intruded on the Log ride's sight lines...Boy, if I'd known what Cedar Fair was going to do to the place I think I might have cried.

When did the Log Ride come into being? Sitting here at my computer, just off my left shoulder on the wall, is a poster from Knott's for the Timber Mountain Log Ride. Copyright date is 1980. The Poster for the Calico Mine Ride is behind me and the Ghost Town and Calico Railroad is steaming towards me dead ahead. Ahhh, the Old Time Knott's. How we miss it so.
