River and Island 1957

I love this vintage Frontierland image showing Tom Sawyer Island and a Keelboat. Just two years after the park opened (and only one year after Tom Sawyer Island opened), the foliage looks fairly lush. I don't have much to add about this image, except that it is one of those photos that makes me wish that I could step into it (assuming I don't get my feet wet)!

I zoomed in on the Stage Coach, which is barely visible on the shore.

Dave- I don't think that is the Stage Coach, it may just be people on the hill above the fishing shack (which is now the smallest restrooms in Disneyland.) The Stage Coach would not have been on Tom Sawyers Island.

Hi Major- Wow another puzzle. I agree with matterhorn, no Stage Coach on TSI, but that sure looks like a Stage Coach to me. Whats going on here??? There are people sitting in or on something facing each other like in a Coach or Wagon or something. Does anyone out there know anything about this???? Thanks for this cool post!! DD

That is the stagecoach. It's not on the island, but on the far shore of Frontierland proper.

matterhorn and disneydutchman, I agree with anonymous...my description was not very good, when I said that the stagecoach was on shore, I meant the shore of the "mainland". I'm pretty sure that that is what it is...! But I've certainly been wrong before.

I was thinking the Island is not narrow and not very high at that point, but I think it is. I will have to see if I can find an image of the Island and take a look...

Nice Illusion!! When you follow the waterway from the right to the left you can see that it's on the mainland. DD
