Old Dance Circle, 1956

Many of us are used to seeing the Indian Dance Circle when it was north of where the Haunted Mansion is. But back in ye olden days, it was right next to the Jungle Cruise. Which seems weird.

In this first picture, you can see the tropical palms, and even the peak of the boathouse - just like you'd find in the American Southwest! Crowds are light on this gray day, but our dancer seems to be enjoying himself anyway. He's a trouper! I like the kids in their 50's outfits sitting on sawed-off logs. Comfy.

I hope that this drummer doesn't suffer the fate of the drummers in "This is Spinal Tap". But he does look kind of explodey.

Just think, you could probably climb up that berm, and on the other side you would find clockwork crocodiles and hippos.

Sometimes the life of a Disneyland Indian was lonely. No groupies, no squirrelly kids, not even a cranky old man. Nobody said showbiz was easy.

Great pics! I can just never imagine the dance circle and all that being by the Jungle Cruise. The kids in that first shot look like they're opening Christmas presents of socks and handkerchiefs; not thrilled. Maybe the proximity to the headhunters was throwing off the dancer's mojo.

Tom, yeah, those kids really don't look like they're having much fun. It's as if they're being punished!

Nancy, wow, you'll be in Florida for Christmas? Have fun!
