SBC, 1963

Hoo boy, today's photos are so "meh" that it was probably not even worth the time it took you to get to this page. BUT... I scanned 'em, so I'm going to post 'em. You know how it goes for GDB Sundays. Come back tomorrow, I promise it will be better!

SO... two photos of Sleeping Beauty Castle - surely one of the most (if not THE most) photographed object at Disneyland. These particular photos went very dark, and in lightening them up, they got weird looking. See how the foreground trees have dark "haloes" around them? It all feels very evil.

This one is less evil, but equally boring.

Major-

'Boring' is in the eye of the beholder. And although these images may not "rock your world", there's still a lot of loveliness to share. I think the dark "haloes" add just the right touch of mystery to the otherwise tranquil scene.

And if the truth be told, all current-day pictures of me include halos.

Thanks, Major.

I can't see the evil dark halos! Is this like one of those "Magic Eye" pictures?

Boring? BORING? These images are anything but boring!

In the first image, I can just imagine passing by the trees and approaching the Castle using Disney's multiplane camera technique.

I love that second pic. It's as far away from Pepto-Bismo pink as you can get. The subtle coloring is wonderful. Hooray!

Thanks, Major.

And the utility of those shots for tracking the age of the shot by the amount of ivy on the Castle walls. Priceless.

I'm worried about the man walking on the drawbridge in the second shot. He might fall off - there's no railing!

Hey guys, sorry about my recent absence in the comments… it’s a combo of a little bit of burnout, plus I’ve been crazy busy with both work and personal stuff. I’ll try to stay in the conversation!

Nanook, those halos are almost the reverse of Man Ray’s “solarization” effect.

TokyoMagic!, sure, I suppose you also don’t hear those voices. You know the ones I mean!

K. Martinez, I appreciate your positive outlook, but I still can’t get too excited by these photos!

Patrick Devlin, I am going to write a 2000 page doctoral thesis tracking the progress, history, mythology, and meaning behind the castle ivy.

Dean Finder, right after that picture was snapped, the man actually flew up into the air and landed 30 feet away. It was the damndest thing.

JG, I’m glad!

From Sleeping Beauty's Castle to Man Ray in two jumps.

Kevin Bacon got nothing on the GDB.
