Trip to Disneyland, July 1958 - Part Three
Today I am continuing my series of photos from a 1958 trip to Disneyland. We still haven't made it off of Main Street yet!
Our photographer seemed enamored of the old-time charm of Main Streets various shops, like this picture of the Art Gallery. I can only assume that you could purchase original cels from your favorite Disney animated classics - - for the princely sum of $1, or if you wanted a really fancy one with the original background painting, $20 or $30. Outrageous!
The Upjohn Pharmacy was a feature on Main Street for many years. If I had known that there were jars full of live leeches when I was a kid, you can bet that I would have demanded to go and stare at them for 10 minutes or so. Meanwhile, this is another store that appears to have plenty of room for me to live upstairs.
The Wonderland Music store was the place to buy all of your favorite Disney music and storyteller albums. And maybe you could buy one of Annette's rockin' albums as well!

These are great shots of Main Street--especially the Art Gallery!
Wow - these are pretty damn gorgeous!
Main Street never looked as good as it does here. Beautiful!
Don't forget that in addition to the leeches, the Apothecary also had a nifty (but small) set of walk-through panels glorifying Kaopectate. I used to baffle people by saying that the Kaopectate attraction was my favorite thing at Disneyland. After walking around the panels, you were treated to the view of a GIANT mock-up bottle of Kaopectate on the glass counter.
Nice "Squeegee to the retina's" clarity on these gems. These are screaming for some "before & after" shots. Great series, thanks!
oh my, to live above 'upjohn's'; what a wonderful world it would be.
its a beautiful day in the neighborhood...
Love it! I'd be happy with a little flat above the Art Gallery or Wonderland Music. :)
