Sleeping Beauty Castle at Night, January 6 1957

Hooray, it's time to blog about Disneyland again! The nightmare is over.

Ordinarily it is hard to get too excited about photos of Sleeping Beauty Castle. But these lovely night shots are exceptional! The slides are hand-dated "January 6, 1957", and as you can see, there are still some Christmas garlands on the castle - - not to mention that glowing red tree. The reflections in the glassy water are a nice touch as well.

Here's a second shot, taken from the east side of the hub. While it appears that the park was deserted, the other guest probably disappeared during the long exposure.

WOW....fantastic night shots. Looks like the first pic was taken while standing within "The Christmas Bowl" area (page 39 of "Disneyland - The First Quarter Century")

Awesome! There's something warm and welcoming about these early lighting & color schemes compared to the amazing but almost too technological effects we can be dazzled by today. We're very lucky to see any night shots from that era and extra so for anything anywhere near as neat as these.

aand the end of the nightmare, ahhhh, it feels like Christmas again. ;)

I had to laugh when you said that photos of the castle don't excite you very much...it is actually the one site I shoot the most when I go to the Park. These photos gave me chills. I've been going to the Park since I was 6 months old and while I know I was there in 1957, I can't honestly say I remember what the castle looked like back then. Seeing these photos was like traveling through time, literally.

There's a theme park in Anaheim with a Castle? Who Knew!

Usually Castle photos don't excite me either, but these night shots are splendid - Thanks!

Thanks, folks.... I can't promise to never do another "Week Without Disneyland", but it's nice to come back to my favorite park!

I wish getting people to disappear were only that simple. I have to use shovels and wait for a moonless night.
