Rainbow Ridge & Battling Elk
Nothin' too exciting today, but fans of the old Mine Train ride should be happy. Here we are in Rainbow Ridge; we all know about Town Square's opera house (home of Mr. Lincoln), but how many people would be able to tell you where Disneyland's other opera house was? If you look up near one of the red barrels, you can see two pack mule riders.
Those elk are battling for the affections of those three does, who look pretty uninterested in the whole thing.

"I'm happy."
I was just about to say that! those two little words ...'Rainbow Ridge"...ALWAYS bring a smile to this face!
beautiful!!! :-)
Two great pics! Are those mini posters at the entrance of the "other" Opera House? How cool is that! In Pic #1 Everything looks full size if you didn't know better...
The battling elk. Now that is not a Disneyland photo you see very often. I don't even remember the elk on this attraction. Time fades one's memory I guess.
Apparently the Mine Train was high maintenance with all the audio-animatronics being exposed to the weather and sun outside.
It would be nice if they had a ride like Mine Train today.
Love, love, love the colors in the RR picture.
Olympic Elk!!!
From a time and a place that is no more.
Thanks for posting this...
The Opera House was added with the realignment of track when the attraction changed from Mine Train to Nature's Wonderland. That inside passing track in the station area used to be the main line for the Mine Train and started to curve to cross Cascade Canyon (a feature of the old Mine Train) right about where the Opera House sits. Needless to say (but I'm saying it anyway) there was a different tunnel for the train's passage.
By the look of the elk and such I think this was taken before they were moved to the left side of the tracks for Nature's Wonderland. I'm gussing here, though.
Monkey, you sound like a man who knows what he's talking about! Thanks for all of the interesting info. "Cascade Canyon", I've never heard that term before! Very cool. You should definitely write down all of the amazing details that you recall about the Mine Train and Nature's Wonderland. The more esoteric, the better!! REALLY!
