A Pair from January 1960
Disneyland was a healthy and growing 4 1/2 years old when these pictures were taken, and things were really hitting their stride.
Check out this beautiful shot showing plenty of old Fantasyland beneath, in a slide taken from you-know-where. The Pirate Ship (love that ornate stern) sits in it's cement pond, there's no Skull Rock yet. The Matterhorn sprouted about 7 months ago, and to our right, you can see some of the classic (well, pre-1983) facades. Are the Skyway towers painted multiple colors to look festive, or was it a kind of camouflage in the kaleidoscope-colored theme park?
Here's another view from down below. If you figure out the dead-center of this photo, our photographer was pointing at nothing. But it was a busy day, with lots of people milling about. Check out the kid in his western outfit to the extreme right! If you happen to need more tickets during your visit, you can stop by the Fantasyland Ticket Booth.
This sign seems to indicate that you can still buy individual A,B,C,D, and E tickets if you aren't willing to pay for another ticket book. A tickets were 10 cents, B tickets were 20 cents, C coupons were 30 cents, D tickets were a mere 35 cents. The new-ish E tickets were priced differently depending on whether you were an adult or a child... unfortunately I can't read what those prices are! I think it says 40 cents for a child, 50 for an adult. Notice also that this sign refers to the rides as... well, "rides" instead of the generally-more-acceptible "attractions".

I still can't believe that this ship was just demolished. Fantastic pictures as always.
As late as 1965 Disneyland used "rides and attractions" (and other variations thereof before).
Great Post, Love the TICKET BOOTH!!! I can't read the bottom part either, but an Adult "E" ticket was 50¢ in 1960. I would die for that sign!!!!! You won’t see the word “Ride” on any tickets after the first batch in 1955. Interesting that they eliminated “ride” from the tickets but not the signs…
Thanks!
Actually, I love the restroom and telephone sign right next to that ticket board there. I recreate old theme park signage from time to time, and that one would be fun to do, and then put up near our new bathroom!
I can't believe they just demolished that ship either, Viewliner. *sigh*
That first picture is amazing. Such a strange view!
