Vintage Cars
As long-time readers of GDB might know, I am a big fan of vintage automobiles - but I don't know much about them! I just love the way they look, and the way certain styles from certain years evoke something about the culture and the nation. I chose three scans for today, but am going to have to rely on the expertise of the Junior Gorillas as far as ID-ing the cars. I made a bit of an effort, but got nowhere.
First up is this 1950s photo of a station wagon down by the ocean. It sure looks like Florida, or somewhere on the Gulf Coast. It also looks like a beer commercial. Perhaps the dock is where you could catch a fishing boat. Get out there and get some tarpon, or even a barracuda! Mmmm, toothy.
Might as well stick with the "down by the water" theme; I think I see mangroves, so perhaps this is Florida again. I can imagine a family leaving their frozen home up north to enjoy the relative warmth of the south.
And finally, a man poses with his pride and joy, a bulbous (yet streamlined!) beauty that I just couldn't ID, as much as I tried. The Indiana license plate is from 1948.

A nice photo! I like the spots of light and shadow, highlights and shade. I bet those palm trees make a "big W" when seen from a certain angle. I tried zooming in on the license plate, but with uncertain results. It might be Florida, but I couldn't really make the letters cooperate. This picture must've been taken during the Covid years, the guy leaning against the tree is wearing a face mask. ;-) OK, so it's not a face mask. Is there someone else next to him? Or is that 'mask' actually something on the dock, farther back?
2) Someone must've been really proud of their new(?) car, to showcase it so prominently amongst all the other stuff going on. Is that a boat behind the car (on the right)? Seems odd for it to be hot pink and red in the 1950s. Meanwhile, somebody give that guy on the left edge a towel. His lower half is nekkid! :-p
3) There's more to this pic than I first thought. Junior can be seen behind the wheel, through the glare on the windshield. And someone else is sitting next to him, almost invisible. The girl with her head poking out of the passenger side window is holding a doll, which I thought was a real baby at first. And I can't tell what that red thing is in the back. I love the shiny chrome on this car!
Major, like you, I like the looks of vintage cars but know practically nothing about them. Thanks for the photos.

The 1st image is sporting a 1955 Ford Country Sedan, [probably] in Snowshoe White.
In the 2nd image, we have a 1951 Mercury, [probably] in Tomah Ivory, sitting in front of a 1957 Chevrolet, [probably] in Lakespur Blue. It appears the 'black' car behind the Mercury is a 1949 Ford; and the 'tan' car behind the Ford is a 1955 or 1956 Pontiac.
The beauty in the final image is a 1942 Oldsmobile, [probably] in Slate Green ... or maybe Forest Green.
