Mine Train Queue
Today's photos don't get us quite as far as the actual Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland ride, but we are approaching the queue, with views of The Little Mining Town of Rainbow Ridge, and that's something.
There is an actual line for the Mine Train, though, as usual, it is not that long. I suppose that the ride was a "people eater", but I've never seen a large crowd waiting to board. To the right we can just see one of the palm-frond (from a rare blue Tahitian palm) umbrellas from the outdoor dining area for Casa de Fritos, while colored lights are strung overhead, they must have looked lovely at night.

Major-
Undoubtedly, those colorful festoon lights cast just the 'right' colorific glow to approximate the 'Ol West. (That, or a very colorful used car lot-!)
Do I spy twins in the center of the 1st image, or merely matching outfits-? (I'm voting for matching outfits - which also appear at the far right in the form of those blue, patterned shirts, shorts and socks-!)
HEY... where's my solid quarter-??!!
Thanks, Major.
Ah yes, the rare blue Tahitian palm. Favorite nesting site of the rare Norwegian Blue parrot. Also the source of Cookie Monster's 'fur'. There are, not one, not two, not three, but FOUR tent-like souvenir bucket hats on those kids in the lower right. Dad (nice legs) must have deep pockets. I wonder what other goodies his kids were treated to that day? Rainbow Ridge has a nice warm glow in this photo.
I look forward to receiving my 25 cents in the mail; a nice quarter, scotch taped to the lengthy, heartfelt letter of reparation. Or maybe it will be 25 pennies. What am I gonna do with 25 pennies!? It would take at least two postage stamps to send it... maybe three!
Are you sure there are mules in this picture? All I see are a bunch of people wearing colorful clothes. On the right, there's the lady wearing bright red and black plaid pants. In the center is a lady wearing an orange Fruit Stripe gum dress. And over to the left are a couple of guests wearing magenta clothing. Although one of those might be an ostrich plume hat.
Nanook, I saw those 'almost twins' too. I'm sure Melissa would have a thing or two to say about them.
Nice people pictures today, Major. Thanks.
I'm guessing that the wait for the Pack Mules was almost always longer than the line for the Mine Train. I'm basing that on the fact that the Pack Mule queue had something that offered a little bit of shade for the guests, and the Mine Train queue had zilch.
JB, the pack mule train hadn't arrived at the loading platform yet!
Thanks, Major!
Ah, the mules not the train? Well that's ok, since the drive driver doesn't react to those scritches nearly as well. You can, therefore, keep my quarter- unless you want to issue it in Bit-Quarter, which I'm sure is far better for reasons that I refuse to fathom.
Regardless, I'm just happy to be in our beloved Frontierland today! Now, off to pet a mule!
Blue palms are the best palms. I vaguely remember those colored lights, but not at this location, maybe I’m wrong.
Major, I will spend my $0.25 reparations on a blubber and onion sandwich. I will also skritch my mule with fluency, fervor, and zeal, because I like mules.
It’s a colorful crowd today, perfect mule-riding weather.
Thanks Major!
JG
Nanook, “festoon”?? One of my children is named “Festoon”! The other is “June Bug”. Hmmm, I think the “twins” might just be identically dressed, but it’s hard to be certain. I forgot to mention that the quarter that you will receive will be a Canadian quarter.
JB, Are you telling me that the Cookie Monster does not grow his own fur? Well of course I know that you are kidding, we all know that their fur continues to grow throughout their lifetimes, needing occasional shearing. Your mention of a coin Scotch-taped to a letter makes me have the ghost of a memory of actually receiving a coin in this manner, though I can’t imagine why that would be. After all, when I was a kid you could NOT go to a double feature and buy a trolley fare for 25 cents. These slides were undated, but I like the way you can start to see bold colors and patterns being introduced, just in time for the psychedelic era!
TokyoMagic!, I’d assume that the Pack Mule line took a lot longer, I wonder how many mules were in use at, say, noon? A “train” of mules was probably not longer than a dozen animals, so a busy queue might mean a long wait.
Stu29573, at this point I’d want to ride the mules, since I did the Mine Train (not nearly enough though). It would have been awesome to see many of the same sights from the back of a trusty mule! Just the novelty of the experience would be worth it.
JG, I’m trying to think of where else they might have had colored lights - perhaps over the Mad Tea Party? I am not sure. Blubber gives you energy, way more than a dumb PB&J! Seal blubber or whale blubber? Surprise me. I’ve invented a mule-scritching machine, you might see them in Target stores next Christmas.
Actually, the pictures are of the two lines. The first being the Mine Train and the second being mules. Casa de Frito's was lit in multi colors fitting with the umbrellas and tables/chairs. It was very festive. I'm assuming the photographer was more impressed with Rainbow Ridge rather than the lines themselves. Didn't work mules so I'm not sure what the maximum number of mules were on a line, though I can confer with an expert or two. Mike always seems to come up with the answer. Now, as for that quarter, may I have a silver one please?? KS
