More Pitchur Gallery

Say, howsabout looking at some more Pitchur Gallery photos? I promise that they'll be swell! We don't have to walk anywhere, because both of these feature Goldie's Joint.

I know I've said it before, but one of the things to love about Knott's Berry Farm was Walter Knott having a sense of humor about a place like Goldie's. And if he could laugh about it, everyone else could too. Case closed! At Goldie's, you could come in through the front door, and sneak back down the side stairs. Why? I have no idea. Maybe it was a fire safety thing?

If these charming girls aren't sisters, I'll eat my hat.

Hello, gals! What's cookin'? I brought a portfolio of my etchings to show you. Women love printmaking, it's a known fact! Details of the building are subtly different, I'm guessing that this example was taken at least 10 years before the first example.

The photographer must have had a great way with people! Do you think the flowers in their hair were added just for this photo?

Major-
Those flowers are actually a part of the hair, and were grown just for this photo shoot. Pretty swell, huh-??

Thanks, Major.

Major, "Details of the building are subtly different". Boy, I'll say! The lettering (both "Rooms" and "Goldie's Joint") is identical. Maybe they were repainted, but still the same. And the wood grain on the wall and door is the same.
Differences? Well, the curtains are slightly different. And the doorknob is different.

I'm guessing the older photo is from the '40s and the newer one is from the early '60s.

I miss the leg dangling out the side window. Was it there (on the real building) from the beginning? Or added in more recent years?

Some nice vintage Knott's today, Major. Thanks.

I love that all of the subjects are laughing. Too bad none of them was brazen enough (or perhaps not enough of a contortionist) to stick a leg out the side window.

The woman on the right in the second pair of photos has a sort of “Shirley Temple” vibe about her. She was probably an orphan who sang and danced her way into the hearts of a rich couple, resolved their love triangle, and lived happily ever after. I’m sure that was a fairly common occurrence. She sure looks happy here, at any rate.

Happy November! Only 10 more shopping days until Martinmas!

It's all about flow, baby. Gotta keep that foot traffic moving. Time is money. Move 'em in and move 'em out.

I'm going to go a step further and declare that this is two generations of the same family. If I'm wrong, I'll eat my hat, too. My favorite hat that I made out of leftover Halloween candy.

My very prudish Mom (bless her) thought Goldie’s scandalous. Dad just chuckled.

The kicking leg has been there at least 60 years, JB, that is, assuming it’s still there and hasn’t been removed by modern Puritans.

Great photos, Major. Folks just having fun.

Great old timey B&W pics. Andrew has a good night time photo of this on his Oct. 26th blog at Knotts. Leg and all.
Thanks Major.

Nanook, wow, Knott’s really did things right. Most parks wouldn’t bother with real hair flowers.

JB, listen, when I say subtle, I mean subtle! I’m Major Pepperidge! I’m from Hollywood! (Apologies to Andy Kaufman). I can’t recall if the older photo says “Knott’s Berry Place” on the back, if it does then it really is from the 1940s. As far as I know, the leg out the window (of the real building) was there from the very beginning.

Chuck, I wonder if the photographer asked somebody to put a leg out the window in the photos that have that? If so, did these people say “No thanks”? Or did he not ask? Also, where to babies come from? I think the woman on the right in photo number 2 looks like a cross between Shirley Temple and Martha Raye. I already have my bright yellow suit, all ready for Martinmas.

Melissa, you obviously have management experience, maximizing profits and minimizing… well, something. These two photos were acquired at different times, but hey, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible that the women are from the same family.

JG, that’s what’s so funny, Walter Knott was pretty darn conservative, and yet he was OK with Goldie’s. Andrew had a photo just last week showing that the leg is still there!

DrGoat, hey, great minds think alike! And I think that way too sometimes!

At first I thought I was looking at some kind of Parent Trap/ Patty Duke show thing…but I guess they are different people…Girl with hand in air behind her- this is a very 60’s ladies pose- check out almost every photo of Disneyland Ambassador Connie Swanson- always hand in air like “Off to Tivoli darlings!” “Off to the Stu for lunch with the Boss!”…might have actually been “off to my cube in Ron Dominguez’s old house”. That was a glamourous time for the Ambassadors. Note that Marcia Miner was Mar-see-uh…not Mar-sha…akin to Marcia Marcia Marcia! From the Brady show. Eve Plumb refused to recite that when asked…I knew another child actress from the time and said that even as a kid Eve Plumb was a “serious study” and the Brady’s were just another gig for a busy working actress. Where was I? Right! Knotts! Why didn’t they crop the stairs out of the photo? Seems odd…I thought they were in a full size building..the magic has been destroyed! I’m going to go bury myself in White chocolate Kit Kats…
