Knott's Berry Farm, September 1978

By the late 1970's, my Navy family had moved away from SoCal to Pennsylvania, and back again. And while I continued to visit Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm fell off my radar for many years. I regret it now, but such is life.

Anyway, here are some photos from 1978. Starting with the wonderful Stage Coach, which still runs (incredibly) to this day.

This yellow-bellied thievin' coyote has just robbed the Stage, but the joke's on him: that bag is full of Skittles. Taste the rainbow.

These old-timers may look like they are suffering from intestinal distress, but trust me, they are having fun, and lots of it. It will be even more funerer when the train is robbed and the man has to give up his wallet.

Train rides are supposed to be fun!! The angry Joe Walsh family looks pretty sullen and so not thrilled about posing for a photo.

If they only knew Wild Bill Hickock looks to be sitting in the car behind them.

And on top of it all, the robber's going to get mad when he find out Grandpa doesn't have any Skittles in his wallet.

The passengers in the train pic are on a stopover in a quiet town.

Alonzo, ha ha, the guy DOES kind of look like Joe! Maybe the photographer took them by surprise, or maybe they hate trains.

Melissa, gramps has a saucy photo of Clara Bow in his wallet, there is no room for Skittles.

K. Martinez, I think the train might have stopped in Willoughby.

I remember "A Stop at Willoughby". There's also the Centerville stop, which is in the Twilight Zone episode I was referring to "Stopover in a Quiet Town". It's about a train that goes in circles and keeps arriving at the same station.

K. Martinez, I didn't even GET your Twilight Zone reference! It was a freakish coincidence that I happened to make a TW-related comment. Or maybe my subconscious got it!

I'm not sure I remember "Stopover in a Quiet Town"; which is weird, but then again, there are a LOT of Twilight Zone episodes.

That's one of my favorite TZ episodes! So simple but terrifying.
