Merms, 1966

I love merms! You used to see merms at Disneyland, lounging around the lagoon, playing lyres, combing their tresses, and frying baloney. There's three of them in this photo, I thought they usually worked in pairs. They are probably discussing what products to buy that will make their scales more lustrous and barnacle-free. How about Clairol's "Fin-tastic"?

The shadow of the Matterhorn provides some relief from the sun, while a thick coating of lard protects their skin from the chlorine in the water.

Three mermaids, you say-? Or is that a triad; or troika; or trio; or threesome; or triplet; or tercet; or maybe ternion. I'm so confused... Mermaids can do that to a fella.

Cheers for the second picture. It's very swell.

I'd vote for très merms.

Anybody know how they reached their tanning rock? Did they swim out, arrive via boat, pop out of the Nautilus during the bubble screen?

I read somewhere that there was (really, no joke)a slide tube they went down to get into the lagoon. Any former cast members or history buffs have any proof of this?

Maybe it was just a myth (like the merms themselves).

I'll await an answer whilst I enjoy my fried baloney sandwich.

Just Google "Diary of a Disneyland Mermaid" for a neat-o interview with a former mermaid.

I believe it's a "trident" of mermaids.

Nanook, alls I know is dat dere's three of 'em.

Bill, I think they slipped into the water at some discreet location and then swam to the rock.

Alonzo, I don't remember reading anything about a slide tube, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't there!

210Frwy, I hope that "Diary of a Disneyland Mermaid" is as spicy as I am imagining!

Chuck, what can I say, I can't type. The date has been corrected!

Melissa, 4 out of 5 dentists agree with you.
