1960 Fantasyland

Today's slides were a nasty shade of magenta, so I have attempted to color-correct them as much as possible. Sometimes they turn out great, sometimes not so great. These are sort of "eh".

Nevertheless, this first one still manages to evoke lots of nostalgia as we see Dumbo flying around in the original Fantasyland! The vintage clothing and hairstyles contribute a lot to the old fashioned flavor.

This nice lady (and her cat's-eye shades!) has got to be a kindergarten teacher. I feel it in my bones! "Good morning, Miss Kirby...". Anyway, she has just finished riding the Alice in Wonderland attraction, which explains the giant pink mushroom. I hope.

lol giant pink mushroom... and there's a girl in the middle of the pic who stopped to scream at it. I hope...

You must have done some mighty fine work on these because they look real nice for having been real magenta. Kudos to you, if you can use some.

The boy on the left of Miss Kirby seems to think he's seen her somewhere's before too, and in less than thrilling circumstances. I think she's really an old fashioned girl from Kansas who has ventured to the glitsy mod'rn California to visit her bookish younger sis (following). And we see that Granny wasn't about to miss the trip, or Alice in Wonderland either.

Talk about a vintage feel, that top pic has it all right. Don't we know the ladies in the front center are talking about Dumbo. #1: "Did you know that originally the ears went up and down?" #2: "Is that right?" Dad on the right has his camera in the case at his hip and is wondering if he should risk taking another of his 20 shot roll of film here.

Miss Kirby looks like she was delighted by the Alice ride (or she partook in some of the cookie offered by the Caterpiller.)

In 2000,when i turned four, i went to Disneyworld or Disneyland (whichever is in Florida) And I totally remember riding on the Dumbo ride with my dad.. and then I went on the winnie the pooh ride, it wasn't very busy there because everyone was afriad to go on planes because it was October 14, right after 9-11.... so yeah, we were taking a risk, but hey, it was soooo worth it cuz my parents say we probably arent going to go again since we would be used to riding so many rides in one day when it wasn't busy, that it would be sooo boring just standing in lines all day long... =D I have a ton to say, don't i? like yesterday, my sister came into my room and i'm like, "O hai, sis... whats up?i am sooo bored, i like the song that i just herd on the radio... i dont want to start school soon! Do u? No, i bet you dont, you hate school, dont you?" and she didnt say a word, she just left me there talking to myself... =o take a breather!!! okay... if you are stupid enough to read this entier comment, all i have to say is wow. Wow to the f act that you could go on and on reading something this meaningless, i mean, if you were really really bored, you should just go stab a fork through your hand rather than reading this mindless comment... iim not saying this blog or anyother comment is mindless crap, im saying MY COMMENTS ARE MINDLESS CRAP!! =o is anyo0ne going to see Ponyo (Gake no ue no Ponyo) i read on Wikipedia that it is like the same story line as the little mermaid, and i love that movie... OK finally all done!

I'm sorry, you said "Nasty Magenta" and now all I can think of is Rocky Horror. No Disneyland comments today.

I think these turned out just great, Major. That giant mushroom is now a buttery yellow color, but I always liked it better in pink.

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone! Anonymous, you get a gold star (and yes, I hope to see Ponyo)! Katella Gate, believe it or not I have never seen Rocky Horror, so I did not get the "Nasty Magenta" connection (and still don't!).

Major,

I was a kid in the mid 1960's, but when I see these pictures from 1960 and earlier, it kind of makes me wonder where these people are today. Why have they given up photos that are obviously family photos. I enjoy the pictures, but feel sad as well about a time long gone into the past.

Anonymous #2, I know what you mean. There are so many photos of happy families, and kids who would now be in their 50's. Yet nobody wanted these family memories.
