Frontierland 1956
This slide is labeled, "Entrance to Western Land". Western Land? Dude! Come on! Everybody knows it's Frontierburg. Enjoy this early view for its extreme earliosity, won't you?
Here's a nice shot taken from the top of a Keel Boat, looking down into Fowler's Harbor (named after Admiral Joe Harbor). The harbor reminds me of Sweet Haven (where Popeye liked to hang out). Doesn't it look like the Keel Boat loaded right here? Meanwhile, luv those crazy 50's shirts.

Maybe the guy comin' at him scared him from seeing the right name for the place, which is in plain print on a huge sign right in the middle of his picture!
Wow Fowler's Harbor looks pretty rough there. Not just the rough scraggly grounds behind it. Is that barbed wire and mines in the crawl spaces on the net covered training grounds there to the left? There are barrels of explosives on the raft in the harbor, a bale of burlap wrapped cotton for the explosives ops in the foreground and a gas or carosine container on the post to set the works. Not just all that: look at Fowler there on the dock left front of the joint, he looks like he could be a little tough too. Whew shady places in them days.
I'd like one of those crazy '50's shirts!
I'm with you on this one Chiana...
just looks like a lot of trouble ah brewin'
Ditto on the shirts Major.
Tokyo Disneyland calls that section of their park Westernland, but the photographer was 27 years too early with the term.
I love the words you come up with: earliosity? Perfect! Ya, I don't think I would have ventured too close to that harbor back then - not inviting at all.
Frontierburg! Love it!
By the time I reached "earliosity" I was laughing so hard I ruptured the small blood vessels in my eyes and now I am blind. Blind and laughing, while laughing blindly.
Oh Major why don't you use your comic superpowers for the Good?
If you look closely, you can see Yul Brynner in a black shirt, lurking in the shadows of WestFrontierWorldLandBurg, in the first photo taken on Hawaiian Shirt Day.
I always worried about the kegs of dynamite sitting everywhere. Who needed all that dynamite? what was going on behind the scenes, did they use that to demolish all those public streets and power lines?

I use to see people wearing those type of shirts with similar patterns in the 1990's and even today. Better looking shirts than some of stuff they sell today.
The guy in the first picture coming out of Frontier Land looks kind of mean and rough. Maybe it is just the pic. Boy if he was 18 in that pic...he would be 69 years old today. Strange how a pic like that can almost look like it was taken just yesterday, but was actually taken over 50 years ago.
