Tour Guide, July 1962

Here are two from 1962, starting with this not-quite-in-focus shot with one of Disneyland's tour guides in the foreground. She can speak three languages and knows judo ("Hi-YA"). To the left you can see the giant thimble above the Flight Circle. I know that it was gold in color at some point, but it sure looks silvery here. The angled roof of the Yacht Bar can be seen edge-on in the distance, and the Astro Jets are hidden behind the trees. Stupid trees! They ruin everything. The kid in the striped shirt is probably admiring the fantastic Rocket to the Moon!

We've seen similar views a million times. Hooray for # 1,000,001!

Bottom picture, above the matterhorn ride building there is a crane. Wonder if that's A Small World going in?

Disney Nametags, wouldn't it have been even better if she was smiling? ;-)

Thufer, I don't think that Small World was under construction yet, since this is only 1962. But I don't have a better explanation! What was back in that direction in '62? It's possible that the crane is actually just outside Disney property...

I never get tired of these pics....off to go buy some ruby red lipstick, LOL.

I kind of like the no-nonsense, stop-asking-silly-questions-and-stay-with-the-tour-or-I'll-use-my-riding-crop-on-you look. Smiling would destroy that mystique and encourage me to ask silly questions and stray from the tour.

On a completely different subject...yesterday was the 40th anniversary of the Disneyland Riot. Ran out of time to log in yesterday to comment. Anyone here actually remember the event firsthand?

Chuck, be sure to see Daveland's post from yesterday, with juicy details about the Yippie invasion!

Oh, she's not bad...she's just drawn that way.

I love the old swiss cheese matterhorn, it went with the whole alpine theme so well.

i found a picture of the matterhorn basketball court a while back, major, if you want a copy, track back here and i'll send it to you.

JG, I'd love to see a good photo of the basketball court, the only one I've seen is a tiny one with DJs Mark and Brian up there.

Major, check your email.

I don't know if it's good or not. Maybe you know someone reliable who can confirm as my source might not be.

Best regards, appreciate your work.
