Construction, April 1962

Here's a neat view of Frontierland and the early New Orleans Square area as it undergoes major construction. The folks on that raft probably felt a bit let down...nothing to look at but piles of earth, some trees in boxes, and barely-framed structures. Where's the beautifully manicured Disneyland that I see on TV all the time? But if I could step into the picture, I would have taken photo after photo! To our right you can see Frontierland Station. Behind that is the framework for a taller structure, could this be for the Haunted Mansion? It seems kind of too far back, but I don't really know what else it could be.

The next photo was taken on the same day (sorry it's a bit blurry). I'm not sure where it was taken from...at first I assumed it was from the Disneyland railroad, but I am pretty sure that the railroad was not operating at this point due to the Haunted Mansion construction. Who knows, I could be wrong. Let's hear it, experts!

Hello!

I'd say that the tall structure in the distance in the first pic is the soon-to-be Tower building over at the Disneyland Hotel.

The second pic was taken from approximately where the Hungry Bear Restaurant is located today. Back then it would have been the new trail to the Indian Village and the soon to be site of the Indian War Canoes (now DC Explorer Canoes). Fowlers Harbor is just beyond the brush on the right.

Thanks for all of your posts; I really enjoy them.

These are GREAT pictures, WOW that first one is just amazing, I have never seen a photo from that angle showing NOS as "dirt". I guess not many people would take pictures of dirt, I would! THanks

The Mark Twain shot is definitely taken from the path to the new Indian village.

It must have been strange to see the monorail streek by on its beamway just outside Frontierland! Look at the break in the berm.

Another in agreement that the 2nd photo is taken from just behind the load area for the canoes.

Were these shots taken by a worker bee?

Thanks for the info and comments from everybody who chimed in!

Hrundi, these photos were taken by tourists, I've posted some of their images before.

In the first photo, I think the under construction building behind the Frontierland Station is the retaining wall for the backbuilding of Haunted Mansion. It can't be anything else.
