Easter, and Snoozles™

Because I compose my blog posts so far in advance, I often forget that certain days are actual holidays. Like EASTER, for instance! Luckily for me, Sue B. always knows what's what, and she sent along two fun vintage scans for the occasion.

Let's start with this undated (but probably 1950s) photo of a woman who might be a bit tired (?) at the end of the day (since it seems to be nighttime). On the table is a classic Easter basket, along with lots of cool camera equipment, along with a frankly-huge hard cover manual for a Leica camera. Nice!

Next is this cute photo of two kids in their Sunday finest. The girl even has a bonnet, which is as traditional as can be. What do you call that collar thing? It's like the world's largest Peter Pan collar. I'm sure they are thrilled with their Easter baskets, in spite of their calm exteriors.

THANK YOU, Sue B., for sharing these fun Easter pix with us!

It's Sunday, a day of rest, and also a day of not-so-great photos (some call then Snoozles™). First up, a Blurzle, taken from a runaway Monorail. Clem, the pilot, was talking to a pretty gal on the platform when the train started moving. NOT AGAIN! You can't see it, but he's actually chasing the Monorail on the beam, a la Buster Keaton. Screechy looks great, even when blurry.

"What the heck, Major? This one isn't so bad!". Well, I was liquored up, and you don't want to be around me when I'm liquored up. I once punched a man for snoring (he was in a hospital bed, admittedly).

Happy Easter, everyone!

I see an Easter theme throughout...Screechy's carrying an Easter egg, and the gal bears (I don't recall their names - but maybe someone else will) have on their Easter bonnets.

Thanks, Major. I hope the Easter Bunny hides lots of your favorite candy, and you can easily find it.

Easter #1: I don't see any goodies in the Easter basket! Just fake grass. I'm guessing the tired lady is the photography buff. That blue box over in the left corner of the room says, "French Fry Cutter". And we had one just like it (from what I can see)... probably still do, stuck at the back of some bottom kitchen cupboard.

Easter #2: Major, I believe that "collar thing" is called a "collar". Har,har, har. These kids have properly filled Easter baskets, unlike tired lady's basket in the first image. The girl reminds me of Karen Dotrice (Jane, in Mary Poppins). And the boy... well, now we know where Pee-wee Herman got his inspiration.

Thank you, Sue! (Haven't heard much from you lately.)

Snoozle (Blurzle) #1: Screechy is probably thankful that the picture is blurry... we can't see her wrinkles and crow's feet (eagle's feet?). Are those (yellow and blue) Bobsleds near the Matterhorn station? What is the blurry blob stuck amongst the Skyway cables on the right?

Snoozle #2: Hmm, not blurry enough! You need to add more Blur™, Major. Actually a nice photo. Very representative of the Country Bears show.

Thanks, Major. (Now you can go back to your liquor.) :-p

Major-
Off to the side of that tuckered-out gal appears to be a Ciné-Kodak 8 Model 20 or 25, which took special 16mm film. Each frame exposed in the camera is only half the width and half the height of a standard frame of 16mm film. After the 25 feet of film is run through the camera, the spools must be reversed and the other half of the film is exposed.

When the film is processed, it is slit down the middle, spliced end-to-end and returned as a 50-foot reel of 8mm film. We had a camera just like it, that among other locations, was also used to capture Disneyland in 1956.

That gigantic collar looks to be a Pilgrim collar - but I'm no expert.

Thanks Sue and The Major. Happy Easter to all.
And THIS never gets old-!

JB, that looks like a flying Dumbo tangled in the wires. It happens.

(Haven't heard much from you lately.)
JB, I promise you that I'm here everyday laughing, even when I don't comment.

Nanook, thank you for adding that video link. It IS hilarious!

A lampshade?

.....the gal bears (I don't recall their names - but maybe someone else will) have on their Easter bonnets.

Sue, the "gal bears" were the Sunbonnet Trio.....Bunny, Bubbles, and Beeeeeulah!

Thank you, Major and Sue! And a happy Easter to all!

Happy Easter to all! A perfect day for a cameo from me, my "re-imagined" self has been workin' hard! This morning, eating my bodyweight in Easter candy has revived me. Boy I love sugar! That first photo, well......there's a lot to unpack there. I think if I were to caption it it would be "Mommy's tired and needs her "juice"....juice meaning wine of course. She appears to be wearing flats with stockings...which telegraphs that this is only a break, and she has to move back into her heels, after her "camera work". Like me, she's also eaten a large basket of candy, or perhaps hard boiled eggs. I never liked the eggs at Easter as they smelled of, well..eggs...but eggs and vinegar from the dye. I do like coloring eggs! and at the end I rub a little candle wax on them and buff them to a shine. There's your "Easter Tip" for today. Ok...let's talk about that collar...looks like something for your doggie when they have been to the vet, but she's not wearing it correctly. Don't nuns wear this kind of "torture collar"....I'm sure she can't see her feet or her lovely Easter basket. I am examining Skreechy there....I am amazed when measuring him against the people below, that he is so enormous. Where is Skreechy now?! That bird is monumental. And the bears in the finale, where they sing "Come again".....A guest once commented about all of the details in the park and specifically called out these three bears: "You can tell that they really pay attention to details. Those bows on their bonnets look like they were tied this morning." I found it delightful that she would go out of her way to tell me that. I hope everyone has a lovely Easter Sunday and enjoys the sun if you have it!

Lou and Sue, Screechy always did love a holiday, it is one of the well-known things about her. I feel like “Beulah” was one of the names of the Sunbonnet Trio, but I am probably wrong. I did get an buttercream-filled Easter egg from See’s Candies a few days ago… it was delicious!

JB, maybe some of us like fake grass, did you ever think of that? It’s so crinkly and green. Sometimes you have to appreciate the little things. Wow, I wish we had owned a french fry cutter, so fancy. That “collar” looks like something that keeps pets from licking their wounds, it’s preposterous. You can’t blame the boy for his outfit, his mom is responsible. Those are definitely bobsleds, though I’m not sure that blurry bobsleds bring good luck. Screechy is magical and ageless, wrinkles are not a factor. For some reason I am finding too many photos of the Country Bear Jamboree lately, I don’t need ‘em. Man, I love my booze!

Nanook, interesting, so that camera would produce wide-format images. Great for landscapes, but perhaps not so great for ordinary movie-taking of kids etc. And reversing the spools of film sounds like a pain. Not to mention splitting the film down the middle! There had to be an easier way.

Lou and Sue, that seems awfully high for a Dumbo, and maybe not even in the right place. It LOOKS like a flying elephant, but shouldn’t he be over to the west of the castle a little bit??

TokyoMagic!, maybe it IS a lampshade. Mom was resourceful, like Scarlett O’Hara with the curtains. Hey, I was right about Beulah at least!

Bu, it sounds like you are enjoying the hard work, which is nice. Sometimes it can be rewarding. I ate plenty of Easter candy back in the day, but I never cared for those old-fashioned jelly beans, and the milk chocolate bunnies weren’t that great. It was more the novelty of getting a basket full of candy on a Sunday morning. Funny about mommy needing her “juice”… my 90 year-old mom has her protein drinks (not Ensure, but something like it), and we call it “mom juice”. It’s been a long time since I’ve decorated Easter eggs, I used to like it, especially when we started emptying the egg shells by poking holes in each end so that our masterpieces could be kept forever. I’d love to know if either of the two Screechys has survived, but they really are large. I assume Richfield took possession of them, and maybe they were put into a shredder. I wish I loved the Country Bears more… part of my issue is that I am not generally a fan of country music. And I was the age when animatronic bears just didn’t do it for me.

Camera Lady is bushed. She has been putting in the work and needs a cigarette and a highball. Thank you, Camera Lady!

The little girl’s collar is quite a thing, like those sheet metal cones used to keep rats out of trees. Really Remarkable, and so perfectly ironed.

Blurred or not, I like that monorail pic, but I have questions. Why are the skyway buckets so irregularly spaced? What is that brown building backstage, seen to the right of the shortest skyway tower? What is that thing in the upper right of frame that looks like an untethered Dumbo? But there are two striped Fantasyland pattern trash cans!

Photo 2, all we get are Bubbles and Bunny, Beulah is cut off to the left. Whatever they are singing bears repeating.

Happy Easter to All!
