Sunday Snoozers

Gee willikers. Today's scans are about a "1" on the Richter Scale. You barely feel them. But that's how it goes on GDB Sundays. (What is a williker, anyway?).

I have always loved the Burning Settler's Cabin, especially back in the days when the flames were especially fierce. Like in this July 1964 photo! It's just that this one is a little bit dark, and a little bit blurry.  Somebody better break out the tree trimmers pretty soon, or the cabin is going to be obscured by foliage.

Chief Wavy is also on the verge of being swallowed by the verdant growth along the shore of the river; Soon all you would see is a hand above the greenery, and maybe you'd hear a muffled whinny from his horse. Notice the Chief's backup in the upper right!

Unbelievable how thick the foliage is, since all those trees and greenery had only been there for about 10 years.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

I hope the Chief and his backup know all of The Supremes' hits.

I wonder if ol' Wavey ever had rotator cuff issues? It makes my shoulder hurt just to look at him... so I won't any more... See you tomorrow!

I wonder if the Chief's back up crew is smaller in size than he is? You know! Forced perspective and all that good stuff. Thanks, Major.

TM!, I'm hoping Melissa knows the lyrics to at least one of Wavy and the Ridgelines' greatest hits.

Let’s all sing a chorus of Chief Wavy’s Blues!

My wife, she done left me, she got a divorce.
All I got left is my old robot horse.
I can’t pay my bills and I can’t pay my taxes,
Can’t cut down these trees ‘cause my ex got my axes.
Even my neighbor is down in the dumps;
He’s lyin’ around in a yard full of stumps.
His cabin is burnin’ right down to the dirt,
And he got a hole in his best Arrow shirt.
Nothin’ to do, so I sit here all day
Just wavin’ those Frontierland Blues away.

I love it, Melissa!

Melissa, I can hear the Chief’s backup singers now...

I’m sure some Junior Gorilla knows the dates that the rhythm section was removed?

Major, thank you for the pics.

Another day with my kids, who we haven’t seen for 15 months.

Cheers all!

I know what we will do in this new "family entertainment complex!" Let show the violent hatchet murder of an unexpecting woodsman, and then!....for extra excitement!...show a unsupervised burning building (with actual FLAMES) in the middle of a forest with lots of fresh trees and perhaps some dry ones too to give them a REAL show. I can't have a candle burning in my house without a fire extinguisher less than 10 feet away from it, and it still makes me nervous...I actually loved this burning building and all the murder things...however I always wondered how nothing else burned around this house, and I am sure with all that fire things had to have got hot enough to ignite something...right? Was this house made of concrete? Or maybe big bricks made from pure asbestos? A combo platter of both?

Melissa, that brought a tear to my eye...
But shouldn't the first line be:

I woke up this morning
And got a divorce...

Blue singers always gotta wake up for some reason...

Lou and Sue, they used Miracle Gro! Happy Sunday to you.

TokyoMagic!, um… WHY? Do they have a song called “Gee Willikers”?

Stu29573, Chief Wavy was properly trained and knew how to wave for hours without suffering any ill-effects. In other words, he was a pro!

K. Martinez, oh, good thought! I really don’t know if they were 5/8 scale!

Chuck, I prefer their early hits, before they sold out and lost their edge.

Melissa, FANTASTIC! I don’t know how you do it - and so quickly, too! It would take me all day, and mine would be bad.

Lou and Sue, me too!

JG, I actually have no idea when those hillside warriors were completely removed; for a while it seemed like the number was reduced little by little as the trees and bushes grew. But you never know, maybe another Junior Gorilla has that info!

Bu, I think that the dead settler was one of those “hard facts” of the frontier that Walt talked about in his opening day speech. Sacrifices were made. I admit that there are times when I’ve seen surrounding trees seeming to encroach on those flames to the point where I am surprised that there was never a brush fire on the island. I thought that the cabin was made of steel and concrete, but have never actually known.

Stu29573, yeah, why don’t blues singers just stay in bed?! I guess they have to get up for the bathroom, if nothing else.

@ Melissa-
Yuck, yuck-!

@ Bu-
One would think brick and concrete played a big part in the cabin's construction. On the other hand, I would hope asbestos was somehow thrown into the mix - for, after all.. asbestos is "the miracle mineral"-!

Thanks, Major.

Bravo, Melissa! And in less than 30 minutes. You rock!

Melissa...If only you could have submitted this comment when the Keel Boats were still operating. I would have sent it to one of the CMs for their spiel! KS

Woke up this mornin’
Just to go to the john,
My baby and all it the toilet paper were gone,
I got those shoulda stayed in bed blues

Nanook, I think it's pretty safe to assume that asbestos was used in the cabin, at least for a while. There's nothing more fun that asbestos.

Chuck, I know, she's a whiz!

KS, oh man... if only that were a possibility!

Melissa, :-)

I wouldn't say they are snoozers. Maybe with a little imagination and a dark/warped sense of humor (like mine) they can be a little more fun.

Pic one the Kanamit's have returned to their home planet (with a load of humans) and this poor settler is being slow roasted for the evening meal. Remember, To Serve Man was a cookbook.

Pic two Our native American friend suffers from severe Hyperhidrosis and is not only waving to the crowd but trying to air out his buckskin encased armpits.

Great pics. Thanks for posting.

@Alonso, now I’m flashing back to those Arrid Extra Dry deodorant commercials from the Eighties, with the “Get a Little Closer” jingle, and the concurrent Sure deodorant campaign with “Raise Your Hand if You’re Sure!” There would always be a big montage of happy, confident Arrid or Sure customers straphanging on buses, waving goodbye at the train station, reaching for things on high shelves, cheering at baseball games, carrying trays over their heads through crowded restaurants, asking questions in classrooms, posing at the end of gymnastics routines, hailing taxis, being the Statue of Liberty, etc. Disney passed up a gold mine by not hiring out Chief Wavy as a spokesbot!

JG, I hope you had a great day with the kids!

Thank you all for your kind words today. I’ve been going through a bit of a creative slump, and it’s nice to hear when you help give someone a moment of fun.

Melissa, if this is what you call "a creative slump," I can only imagine what you write "on a good day!" Thank you for sharing your poems with us!!

Fun post, thank you, everyone!
