Around Frontierland

Here are a few Frontierland views for your Sunday. Nothing great, but not too bad!

I remember telling Walt that folks would enjoy riding minibikes around Frontierland. You know, poppin' wheelies, doing burnouts, running over people who are tying their shoes, that sort of thing. But Walt said canoes are where it's at, daddy-o (he said it while snapping his fingers). And it chaps my hide to admit it, but he was right. Even though canoes don't do wheelies, they are still a lot of fun, and you can get 15 to 20 guests in one boat.

Over at the new and improved Dance Circle (in the Indian Village), it appears that the Chief is addressing the crowd, probably educating them about an upcoming dance. Looking at these slides, I somehow dated them "May 1975", which I just realized is impossible, since the Indian Village closed in 1971. The slides are in a box that I have since moved to cold storage (in the Andes), so I can't even check them. Oh well!

Major-
I've always enjoyed the Perry Mason episode where Ray Collins says 'daddy-o'... "Now, don't bug me, Granny. I'm one of the cool ones. I don't dig slick chicks trying to goof me up... Daddy-o. If only we could hear Walt say it.

Thanks, Major.

“Daddy-O” always makes me think of <a href=“http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052719/
Dick Contino movie of the same name.

Accidentally hit “publish” instead of “preview” there. Tiny screen, big fingers.

Frontierland is always a crowd pleaser. The Canoes ride pretty low in the water, and as a kid, I worried they would sink. If you ever get a chance to go to a Pow Wow, jump on it. It is educational, and a ton of fun as well. Thanks Major.

If you look just above the heads of the guests in the back of that canoe, you can see another canoe "docked" in that little inlet along the shoreline. I remember sometimes you would also be able to see an unused canoe or two docked alongside Tom Sawyer Island. They would usually be back beyond Fort Wilderness.

@ Melissa-
Dick Contino... 'the gift that keeps on giving'. How can one argue with a movie where the hero is an accordion player-? And with a running time of a mere 74 minutes, it's almost over before it begins [evidently a good thing].

Nanook, I don’t know who Ray Collins is (was), but he sounds like one gone daddy! There are a few photos of Walt wearing a beret and snapping his fingers, ha ha.

Melissa, I’m reading the description: “Phil, a part-time truck driver and singer who wears his pants far too high…”! It’s already the greatest movie ever made.

Jonathan, it’s true, sometimes it looks like there’s no more than about 4 inches between the water and the edge of the canoe. If some clumsy person manages to make the canoe pitch, it’s into the drink with everyone! I’m not really sure what a pow-wow is, to be honest. When I was a kid my family went to the Dismal Swamp (!) in Virginia and watched some sort of presentation by Native Americans. I was mostly impressed by the eagle talon that one of them was wearing on a leather thong around his neck.

TokyoMagic!, wow, good eye, I would have never noticed that canoe sitting there. It seems like an odd place for them to store unused canoes, didn’t they have room for them along the dock? I guess not!

Nanook, let's hope that David Fincher or Steven Spielberg will do a big-budget remake of "Daddy-O", with plenty of CGI effects and explosions.

Major, a Pow Wow is a gathering of one or many Nations to exchange cultural traditions including dances, Ceremonies, art and music. I am just a shanty Irish troublemaker, but my wife is Northern Cheyenne, so I get a pass as well. As John would say, a splendid time is guaranteed for all.

I learn something new on every thread.

A few nights ago, I dreamed that I met Walt. He was wearing a gray pinstripe suit and we were standing on TSI. He was slightly shorter than me and sounded just as he did on the TV show. Weird dream, very realistic and odd since I have no experiences on which to base that, other than these threads.

Thanks Major and the Junior Gorillas.
