Rescans - (Less-Amazing Edition)

As you know, I've been going through my old boxes of slides looking for likely candidates for rescans. Sometimes the results are quite dramatic - but today's examples lacked that "wow" factor. Nevertheless, I spent all that time doing the work, so darnit, you have to look at them!

Let's start with this view of the Dead Settler as seen from the Disneyland Railroad. It's not terrible - perhaps a little bit brownish.

The foliage is nice and green, and things generally look crisper; man, that cabin is really blazing! I've often wondered why they didn't put the settler's corpse face-down. There's something extra gruesome about seeing the arrow springing from his chest, with his lifeless face staring up at the sky. "Hard facts" indeed!

Way back in 2009, the world was enjoying a little movie called "Avatar". But your humble Major was busy slaving away at a hot scanner! This 1956 view of the ticket booths and Main Street Station had turned orange, and this was my so-so attempt at restoration.

I guess this is a bit of an improvement; there's some blue in the sky, and things aren't so yellowish - but it still leaves something to be desired.

This fun view of a dapper gentleman and his adoring wife was originally posted in 2007. Again, there's nothing too terribly wrong with it - the colors are a bit muted, giving it a sort of "Instagram filter" appearance.

The rescan lifts off some of that dingy sepia layer, and we have greener greens, bluer blues, and so on. That guy makes me want to wear a fedora - but it would look stupid on me.

I've always enjoyed the dead settler, face up with the arrow pointing straight up at the heavens. If you gotta go...

And those folks at the Main Gate certainly look very 1950's. Just what is that kid holding in his hands - a spear-?

Major, the latest research actually determined that the wearing of a fedora actually makes you smarter-! So go for it, by all means.

Thanks, Major.

Tokyo Disneyland's Fort Wilderness has a peek-in with a sleeping soldier on a cot. He's snoring and every so often, his leg "twitches." They should have given the dead settler at Disneyland some "twitching" arms and legs!

I remember the last image of the handsome looking couple boarding the Jungle Cruise from long ago on your blog. It's one of my favorite "people" images you've posted on your blog. If I remember correctly that same couple shows up again in another photo boarding the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad. Thanks, Major.

I believe that the front gate photo was from a Monday morning during the off-season and the would be visitors are waiting in vain for the Park to open.

Nanook, I suppose you’re right, but if you are face up, monkeys can come along and eat your eyeballs. MONKEYS! As for the “Fedora Effect” (discovered in 1912 by Laszlo Fedora) I am pretty sure I am immune.

TokyoMagic!, oh I like the detail of the twitching leg. Little things like that are fun, and add just that little touch of life.

TokyoMagic!, um… Flintstones, maybe?

K. Martinez, you have a good memory! Do you remember the other photo of that couple, in which monkeys are trying to eat their eyeballs?

Patrick Devlin, ha, now I imagine this same scene four hours later. “Say honey, I’m starring to get that sinking feeling”.

Putting the settler face down with an arrow in his back would have made the Native Americans who shot him look a lot less honorable. With the arrow in his chest there's more of a chance it was a fair fight.

I wonder if that really was the most effective product placement for Arrow shirts...

@Chuck, you beat me to it. Rats.

Poor old Bill, trying to get something off his chest...

Major, Yep....The Flintstones. The ''Bedrock Twitch.''

And lying face up also means that the ferral cats can eat your face off! (That's a Miranda/Sex In The City reference.)

Their advertising department really got the shaft.

It's a wonder that the famous feral cats of Disneyland never crawled up on his chest like my kitties do whenever I lie down.

Melissa, I suppose you’re right, though it still looks like it was an ambush!

Chuck, well, somebody had to say it.

JG, it is a right of passage. Or something.

TokyoMagic!, I just watched it on YouTube. Amazing how things like that stick. “Sex in the City”… I saw one episode, and wished that feral cats would eat my eyeballs.

Melissa, I was astonished to learn that the Arrow brand still exists.

Melissa II, I doubt the settler’s cold body made for a very cozy bed!

In the last pic it appears that the photographer recognized Barry Goldwater 'incognito' and confronted him (nicely of course).
