The Matterhorn, October 1962

Whoa, I've never seen a photo of the Matterhorn before! These must be rare and valuable.

There it is, with the snow gleaming in the sunlight. The charming Snow White grotto and wishing well are visible in the lower left.

I really like this dramatic angle with the old Skyway buckets ("Halloooo up there!"). As usual I am a fan of the waterfalls. We have been photobombed by a single yellow bobsled; I believe that the tree with the red flowers is an African Tulip Tree.

Mighty and majestic, as always.

Thanks, Major.

The yellow bobsled sighting in image 2 does it for me. Nice!

Missed Opportunities

He was looking to the right,
And she was looking to the left.
They passed each other out of sight,
In mutual ignorance bereft.
A love that ended far too soon -
A love that ne’er was even born -
Two Skyway cars that passed at noon,
Going through the Matterhorn.

(I wasn't 100% sure there was a girl in the blue Skyway bucket, so I put one in there for poetic license.)

It's kinda sad that you can't get the view from the yellow bobsled anymore. Now you're in the dark. They should have left a few of the holes in the Swiss mountain.

Major, there was a dark cat's eye shape behind this waterfall in the Matterhorn photos of Feb.12th, which must have been another first year "backside of water" moment. Riders today probably wouldn't mind some spritzing.

Nanook, it sort of kills me to think that this wonderful structure was built in such a short time, and now it takes Disney 5 years to build any larger attraction. Meanwhile, Universal seems to be able to crank out the massive, amazing Harry Potter lands at lightning speed.

Nancy, I'm glad you like these!

K. Martinez, it is like a dash of spice, just the thing it needed.

Melissa, I can tell that you are a REAL poet because you used "ne'er", which is totally awesome! ;-) You did a great job adding the girl… if I wasn't looking for it, I would have thought it was part of the original photo.

MRaymond, I really do love the view from the bobsleds, even now (as brief as they are). Especially at night!!

Raimundo, I took a look, but I don't see the cat's-eye shape you mentioned. Can you be more specific! Meanwhile, I wouldn't mind a spritzing - as long as I don't have to walk around with wet shoes all day (like after Splash Mountain).
