Fantasyland, May 1964

Here's a beautiful photo from Fantasyland, circa May 1964. I love the vivid colors! Even the utilitarian Skyway tower is festively painted.

Sometimes I feel as if I should just put a moratorium on scans of Sleeping Beauty Castle photos. What can  I possibly say (or show) that hasn't been said or shown 8 zillion times before?

Major-

You might wish to reconsider your moratorium on future images of the Sleeping Beauty Castle. You never know when a future image might reveal a familiar face...

The black crooked vent pipe on top of the Casey Jr. ticket booth looks mighty tall there. What gives?

Vibrant colors for sure! Nice film for back then.

But can you really ever have too many pics of SB castle? :)

Never can get enough of the Castle. Hell, we shoot it all the time when we go - and we've been HUNDREDS of times in the past few years.

Fantasyland pic causes instant happy overload! More!!! It looks like the folks at the far left are dancing to an unseen band!

TokyoMagic, I think the smokestack is just pure cartoony exaggeration to make it look good next to the tall roof.

And any castle shot is still good for people watching! I wonder if the older gent in the shade is changing the film in his camera.

The vibrant colors of the film stock -and probably someone with an expensive camera who knew how to use it as well- is great!! The sky is clear, no haze. Probably visited the park after a rainy day. The sky is always beautiful here a day after a big rain has washed all the smog away and turned it into acid rain.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE FOR MAJOR:

See the man in the Fantasy Land booth in the first photo. The man is taking some pictures with his camera.

Mission Impossible For Major: Find those pictures that the man was taking and post them on here.

Sorry Major. I couldn't resist. ;)

Nanook, I know what you mean, but I gave up on that (for myself) a long time ago! Don't worry, there will still be plenty of castle pix.

TokyoMagic!, I'll have to compare that crooked smokestack and see if it is visible in other photos from the time. It has an appropriately kooky look to it!

Nancy, Dumbo might be drunk.

Snow White Sanctum, it is good old Kodachrome. And it is heresy, but I DO get tired of castle photos… I must have hundreds.

Rick West, I don't even bring a camera, believe it or not.

Rich T., I'll bet that guy is getting out a fresh cigarette to smoke. *cough*

David, it is kind of surprising how rare it is to find bright, well lit, focused photos from the past. There is usually something slightly wrong with most pictures, it seems.

OC Native, that really IS a Mission Impossible! It would be amazing though.

I always liked the unusual style of the Skyway towers in Fantasyland. I haven’t seen any like them.

The castle pics are always great to look at. The trees including the large one covering part of the castle make this an unusual shot. Very nice.

Like others have said...keep those castle shots coming!!!
I'll never tire of those, especially ones shot in the 50's/60's/70's. Great pics

That's why I was so excited to recently 'discover' part of the castle the has NEVER been photographed! A "little lost turret" on the west wall, still not even painted, but bound to change now with the new princess faire taking over the area.
