Around Frontierland, October 1967

The one-point perspective in this photo of the entrance to Frontierland just sucks you into the picture. Must....move....forward....   can't......resist.....gravitational.... pull! Resistance is futile, hu-mans.

Here's another interesting perspective; the photographer was suddenly fascinated by the shapely young lady in the provocative outfit. I have to admit that she would have been hard to ignore.

Unbelievable, how great that scene through the entrance looks. From the forest and sailing ship masts of the backdrop to Pendleton store... Does it look that credible today?

Looks like members of The Association strolling into Frontierland...

As fer the 2nd pic, the photographer was clearly focused upon the um bougainvillea and forgot to zoom. Yeah. 's what it was. Not the young lady in the tight denim and short hair. But said gal best get a move on or lady on our left will set her to rights! Seriously, what an inviting setting that is. Think I'd like to take five under that bougainvillea.

Grandma says: You say one thing about the girl that just walked by old man and I will hit you with my cane! (If looks could kill, ouch!)

I liked the foresty look of Frontierland better than the desert landscaping it has now. I also miss those torches over the Shootin' Exposition.

Chiana, it is SO WEIRD that you mentioned The Association, because I was just listening to a "greatest hits" compilation, and I haven't even thought about them in a zillion years. Now, twice in a 24 hour period…! And who are all those guys dressed alike, anyway?

I wish I had a "now and then" photo for comparison's sake, but can only assume that things look pretty different now. Somehow all those trees in picture #2 really are kind of amazing; it sure doesn't feel like any other amusement park that I can think of.

Alonzo, Grandpa is trying his best not to turn his head, but it ain't easy! And just think, Grandma might have been quite the hottie 60 years earlier…

dfan07, one thing that just occurred to me; all those trees, and I don't see ONE leaf on the ground! Trees require a lot of care, which equals $$$. Might as well remove them. One could argue that they block some prime photo scenes I suppose.

Yep, may as well cut down all those wonderful trees. One of them might fall on a popcorn wagon someday!

We can see the Frontierland bandstand just beyond those bougainvilleas.....

Those trees off to left and in the distance with the bluish green leaves behind the bougainvillea are all olive trees. Very interesting looking tree as they age. They get a very gnarled picturesque trunk that is something you would see in the Snow White attraction.

Most of them are gone now with expansion of the restaurant and the building of Thunder Mountain. The only one left I think is in the grassy area where the signs are for the Mark Twain.

As for the shapely young woman in the blue peddle pushers and white blouse. I was born about 15 years too late. I was only 6 years old in 1967. Sigh......

TokyoMagic!, don't you care about our endangered popcorn wagons?

Bill in Denver, I know what you mean! I get the feeling that she knew that men would be looking at her.

OC Native, that silvery gray-green is very olive tree-ish! I wonder if they produced fruit, which would have been a mess. My mom used to have one in her front yard... black/purple olives everywhere.

Major,

It depends. You can get the fruitless kind. I have one in my backyard without any mess.

Such pretty trees....very inviting to be sure.

Maybe The Association was really a group of servicemen of some type. Or maybe they WERE The Association headed for the bandstand...wouldnt that have been groovy!?

Bougainvilla, trees?

There were trees in that picture?

Seriously, @ Chiana, I remember sitting under that bougainvilla.

I remember it had thorns.

Fruitless olives are the way to go, otherwise the mess from the birds almost exceeds the mess from the tree.

Disney was always a step above for landscaping. It makes such a huge difference.

Thanks for the pics.

Past and future walking by each other on the second picture. I can almost hear the lady turning to her husband and begin a ling diatribe on the inappropriate dress of the girl in blue.
