More Special Guest Photos
I'm continuing with an assortment of photo prints (date-stamped "September, 1965" as you can see) from GDB friend JG! I hope you saw the first installment on November 13th. We'll be checking out the last four black and white photo prints, but there are still an additional 11 color photo prints to come. Once again, JG has also shared some personal notes to accompany each image.
My Dad (and possibly me too, out of sight) on the Casey Jr. Load platform (Russ - JG's dad - is peeking out from behind the carved dragon to the left). Two CMs in the CIA uniform are hogging most of the foreground. Not a great picture, sorry Mom.
Unfaithful Geyser: A fairly pedestrian view of the Natures Wonderland desert. I suppose one could consider this to be a pedestrian view, but I wish I had a picture of Old Unfaithful in my family archives!
Here's a really fantastic snapshot of JG and Russ, up in the branches of a certain treehouse! Dad and I in Tom Sawyer's Treehouse. Mom nailed the framing on this one. I took a similar pic with my son and I in 2015, he was a grown man by then, but still cool. I'll look for that one, should be digital by then.
Finishing up the black and white photos is this series, we see JG right up front in one of the Storybook Land Canal Boats. Possibly my second-favorite of all these pictures, Mom and I riding the Annie Oakley into Monstro's Maw. Mom is to the right of the photo, there is a lady between us with black hair and her face turned away. I am certain that Storybook Land influenced my later career choice of architecture. It never occurred to me to seek work with Disney, but I've always been fascinated by the little models.

Appreciate seeing more images from your family 'album' with your personal memories. Looking forward to seeing the additional images in color.
1) "CIA"... You sure they're not NASA guys? 'Cuz they look a lot alike, y'know. We get a nice view of the Skyway Chalet here. And two gondolas, a light blue one and a yellow one (prove me wrong!). Hmm, are these the newer square-ish gondolas? I thought that in '65 they would've still been the metallic-colored 'buckets'.
2) The 'mineral deposits' around the geysers make them look like huge, upside-down mushrooms. (Shiitake, I think.) (I'm sure they put the extra "i" in there just to make the word look less naughty.)
3) Wow, I couldn't see you and your dad in the thumbnail image, JG. Then I opened the full-sized image: Oh! There you are! Nice framing, indeed.
4) Ha! The Storybook Land floral sign 'lawn' looks like Monstro's tongue. I have a very similar image in my dad's collection of slides. Only it's in color... and it's from 1957. I was near the front of the boat, like you, here. We look a lot alike, too. Except, I was 4 years old then. You look maybe six here?

Major, thanks for posting these! I wish the focus was better, but between the old camera and my scanner, they are fuzzy. I think these were taken with a Kodak “Brownie”. Maybe someone who knows more about old cameras can confirm.
JB, the new square gondolas were put in during Summer of 1965. For a little while, the two types coexisted. Major and D@veland both have pics of them simultaneously on the cable. I vaguely recall riding in one of the old type, and also being excited that the new ones were better.

JB, all of the government agencies worked at various attractions in Disneyland. We still don’t know why, it’s CLASSIFIED even now. Those are definitely the square (rectangular?) gondolas, but the date-stamps don’t lie. Unlike hand-dated slides, which can be very iffy. Upside-down mushrooms, hmmmm. If you say so! Yes, the Treehouse photo is particularly good. I guess you don’t have words tattooed onto your tongue? Me and Monstro did it together after one crazy night in Tijuana. Regrets? I have a few.
JG, thank YOU for sharing these, I encourage all Junior Gorillas to share their Disneyland photos here! Kodak Brownie cameras were everywhere, they must have sold a jillion of them, so it is very probable that it’s what was used for these. I’m actually not sure if I have any photos with the old and new Skyway gondolas in use at the same time - if I do I don’t remember the picture. Daveland definitely has at least one, though.
zach, dig out those old photos!!
Zach, I didn’t find any trash can pics, but I do recall my parents always admiring how clean and neat Disneyland was, especially in comparison to other parks.
Major, I think these were taken with a Brownie since I found one in the closet years later while straightening up. I don’t remember them using it, but the era is right, but who knows?

I didn’t know pedestrian views of the geysers were possible. I only ever saw them from the train.
Love the photo in the treehouse! Reminds me of climbing up there with my sister, and then later with my own boys.

JG...thanks for sharing these. The times were magical for us. The the park was simpler and more mechanical yet it was magical for us and our parents. Such great memories which for me have been digitized from Dad's original 8mm film. KS
