Cute in Frontierland and Tomorrowland, March 1962

Well folks, today I'm sharing the last two scans featuring our friend Ginny, the muse of a man who was just nutty about her. It's been fun, but all things must end, I suppose.

There she is, on the hurricane deck of the Mark Twain, overlooking a bulldozed Frontierland. The Columbia was out of service during this period, and was moored at the southern end of Tom Sawyer Island, as you can see here. Ginny has not folded her 1962 souvenir guidebook, but she really should be wearing white cotton gloves to prevent any handling wear. I'll forgive her! Who knows, maybe the example that I own was once hers.

I wish we had a better look at this construction, part of an expansion of Frontierland that would eventually also include New Orleans Square a few years later. To 1962 eyes, this was an eyesore, but if I could go back in time, I would have snapped so many photos!

And last, but certainly not least, here's Ginny back in Tomorrowland, standing on the Speedramp up to the Monorail platform. Was the ramp in motion? We'll never know. This is one of my favorite pictures of Ginny, and a fitting last look.

Bye-bye Ginny. And bye-bye Chicken Plantation Restaurant-! Sob.

Thanks, Major.

So long, Ginny. Hope you had/have a good, long, and happy life. You were like a relative who came to stay for a few months and then went back to wherever you came from.

On the Mark Twain: She's looking her poised and saucy best here. And we haven't seen her with a cigarette for ages!

On the Speedramp: Always with the angled foot positions; I wonder if she walked that way, too? That would look kind of awkward, like Dr. Frankenstein's assistant, Igor, dragging his gimpy foot behind him. I guess that's her hat she's holding on to. With the scarf-like cloth ties that we saw her use to keep the hat on her head.

Thanks for the last look at Ginny, Major.

JB, ha, ha! Now I am picturing Ginny walking around the entire park with her feet in those exact positions.

Ginny sure did know how to pose, even on a moving incline! Although, as the Major pointed out, the Speedramp might not have been in motion. I can think of many times when they have been turned off, throughout the park.

Farewell, Ginny....you will be missed! Have fun hanging out with Fun Mom and Molly Holliday! I suppose Screaming Kidney Stone Kid will be joining you all, eventually.

Thanks for the memories, Ginny!

I didn't realize what a shapely gal Ginny was until I saw the side view picture above. I dreamed I went to Disneyland, in my Maidenform bra!

The composition of that speed ramp picture really is something special. It almost looks like a still from a Stanley Kubrick movie.

All good things must come to an end, I suppose. Goodbye, fair Ginny.
The Mark Twain shot is wonderful....uh...because of the construction!
I think the Speedramp is moving because she is ever so slightly out of focus, but who knows?
Fairwell!

Sad to see this series end. Long life and good times to Ginny and her beau.

Admiring the superstructure of… …the Columbia. Yeah, yeah, that’s it, the Columbia.

Tantalizing glimpse of all that comprehensive construction. But Beau had his priorities straight.

The speed ramp pic is a fitting finale. I imagine us stationary while Ginny recedes into the distance, vanishing into the fog of history, leaving only the Major’s guide book behind.

Thanks Major.

'Ginny' has certainly brought out the best in "us writers'" today. However, it's hard to top... I dreamed I went to Disneyland, in my Maidenform bra! [I wonder how that particular 'situation' was overlooked] - with all those princesses around every corner, the possibilities are endless-!

Thanks, Melissa.

I think Beau was an Imagineer on a busman's holiday, and Ginny was the inspiration and model for the auctioned redhead in Pirates of the Caribbean. Compare her lovely face to any of the young lasses Marc Davis drew -- a ringer.

Au revoir Ginny, you have been a tonic for these jaded eyes.

Nanook, some say that, late at night, you can still hear the “cluck” of chickens where the Chicken Plantation used to be!

JB, it’s too bad we will never know what became of Ginny and her beau, but, like you, I want to imagine that they were happy. As for her cigarette, I guess she can’t always be smoking. Although my brother would prove otherwise. Hmmm, walking with those foot positions - maybe a ballerina could do it and make it look graceful? Yes, that’s her souvenir hat, complete with cashmere scarf.

TokyoMagic!, maybe Ginny sort of glided without moving her feet. Like Gumby. Even though I suspect that the Speedramp was not working, I kind of like the idea of Ginny and her husband moving gradually upward - he had to take that picture fast! I think we’re already done with Kidney Stone Kid, so it’s time to let go!

Melissa, yes, Ginny was “shapely”, as old ads used to say. In the last photo, I imagine the roof of the Monorail Station looks a little like Ginny is wearing an enormous wimple on her head. I hope a breeze doesn’t kick up!

Stu29573, I have only a few photos with Frontierland under construction like that, and I get why people wouldn’t want to take a picture of a bunch of dirt, but I still wish that they had!

JG, ha ha, I’ll bet Ginny got plenty of looks from men at the park. Her beau probably felt like the luckiest guy! “That’s right, losers, she’s with me”. It’s so strange to see that far bank of Frontierland, completely devoid of anything magical. Now I wish that there was fog at the top of the Speedramp! Ginny would just disappear into it.

Nanook, yes, a pretty gal brings out the poet in many people. As for Maidenform bras, Disneyland had already tried to have an undergarments tie-in. It didn’t work out, apparently.

Stefano, ha ha, I can see “the Redhead” when I look at Ginny! Jessica Rabbit, too.

I don't think anything was 'overlooked' with Ginny for many posts. ;) But I digress. This is a fitting shot to say "Goodbye". Back in those days, the Speedramp was more operational than off like they are today. And that's how I see it, with her disappearing up to the station to ride the monorail off into the setting sun to the Hotel...and gone forever. Then again, millions of visitors have done very much that when you think about it. This just brings that reality home. KS

Ginny never made it to the top of the speedramp. She and her beau were beamed aboard the Lexington (NCC-1709, Enterprise's sister ship) milliseconds after the shot was taken and have been enjoying life in the 23rd Century ever since. Or rather, they will have been as soon as they get there. And have been there a while. Never really thought about the grammatical gymnastics required to describe someone from our past thrust into our future before. Or is that "our future after." Oooh...I think I need a Tylenol...

Farewell, sweet Ginny. We will miss you, fair maidenform.

Ginny...quite a..er....profile. I bet Biff was beaming all day. We need to know WHO Ginny is...IMMEDIATELY. I won't sleep until we find out. Isn't there facial recognition? Someone knows. "Ginny on the Speedramp". Is that anything like "Mary on the half shell?" Just asking. No one has pointed out that the Columbia is docked at Tom Sawyer Island? Whaaattttt?! Is this the only time that the Mark Twain passed the Columbia in this manner? and....how did this actually happen? What is going on? SORCERY?! I DO like seeing a big bulldozed mess out there in future New Orleans. I wonder how many vacations were ruined by this entire spance of dirt "down for rehab"? "I came to have chicken and play in dirt and MY ENTIRE VACATION WAS RUINNNEEEDDDDD!" I can hear it now. Was the Indian Village "on hold"? Someone knows. Canoes? Someone knows. A Wimple. Officially I have seen the word and it wasn't part of "How do you solve a problem like Maria" where underneath her wimple, she had curlers in her hair. I am super surprised Ginny is not wearing heels. This fashion forward gal certainly had a practical mind! I know some ladies who would absolutely not be caught dead in public unless in heels. Did you know there are flip flop heels and tennis shoe heels? Heels for every whim and fancy. I'll leave it there. Thanks Major and goodbye Gin...we'll see you again soon...because you WILL materialize....someone will know...

Chuck, sounds like we need that special grammar from Douglas Adams's The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

"The major problem is quite simply one of grammar, and the main work to consult in this matter is Dr. Dan Streetmentioner’s Time Traveler’s Handbook of 1001 Tense Formations.
Most readers get as far as the Future Semiconditionally Modified Subinverted Plagal Past Subjunctive Intentional before giving up; and in fact in later editions of the book all the pages beyond this point have been left blank to save on printing costs."

But, now I have "Hi-Heel Sneakers" running through my head.

"Bu," not "But." Darn that Autocorrect Fairy!

KS, Ginny’s fella didn’t want to miss a thing! ;-) It seems like a Speedramp is a relatively simple mechanical device, maybe they just can’t withstand tens of thousands of feet.

Chuck, Ginny would look swell in one of those Starfleet uniforms. She’d be a real Seven of Nine type! Grammatical gymnastics will be a demonstration sport at the Paris Olympics.

Bu, sadly I don’t have a name, or any real info on our gal. That’s how it goes with slides, you rarely get to know anything about the people pictured. I DID point out that the Columbia is docked at Tom Sawyer Island! You owe me a million dollars now! I do kind of wonder if that construction negatively impacted anybody’s visit greatly? “I was really looking forward to a meal at the Plantation House! I’ve been dreaming about it all year!”. It could happen. I assume that the Indian Village was off-limits during the time, but that’s an interesting question, I don’t really know. I can’t imagine they’d let guests walk through all that construction, even on a roped-off path. My grandma always wore heels, up until the age of 93. And she always wore nice outfits too. She had her standards. I don’t know much about women’s shoes, but I figure everything has been thought of by this point.

Melissa, you can’t go wrong quoting Douglas Adams. Or Don Adams, now that I think about it.

Melissa, :-)

The New Orleans Square area is back under-construction, again (now). *sigh*

Let's hope Ginny is 'waxing nostalgic' for Disneyland, now, and finds GDB. It could happen!

Thanks, Major and Ginny!

Major, now I'm getting an image of Ginny sliding all around the park, and then tripping over the Main St. Fire Truck and becoming a dozen little "Ginnys." ♫ If you have a heart, then Ginny's a part of you!

I might be able to let go of Screaming Kidney Stone Kid, but I will never be able to forget his memorial tree. It always stands out to me now, whenever we see it in a vintage shot.

Let's hope Ginny is 'waxing nostalgic' for Disneyland, now, and finds GDB. It could happen!

Sue, or her children....or grandchildren.....or great-grandchildren!
