Mickey on Main Street, September 1966

I love this first photo - what could be more classic than a family having their photo taken with Mickey Mouse, right near the Main Street Cinema? Kids are squirmy, so Mickey has to hold them in place with his kung fu grip. Mickey's ears look a little worn and torn, he needs to go to the salon.

Zooming in we see another family patiently waiting for their turn to meet the mouse. The kid's hat, with the blue ostrich feather, insures that he will be treated like a king. The dad is holding an early INA guidebook in his left hand (with a ticket-info brochure tucked inside).

The lady in pink appears to be wearing a bonnet. She must be a cast member - she's also wearing an apron. Perhaps she is on break from the Candy Palace just behind her.

Wow, the Main Street Cinema was showing a movie starring President Edgar Kennedy! Who knew. Mickey is giving a photographer the business, much to the amusement of the lady in blue - we'll see more of her over the coming weeks.

I'll be out of town for a few days, and will be away from computers for the most part, but you'll get new posts each day, and I will look forward to reading your comments when I return!

Nice post. Always good to see the Main Street Tobacco Store Indian.

And Mickey seems to be 'on' I guess...? Giving people the business is totally 'old Mick'...he hadn't lost it yet.

Thank you Major

The lady in blue with the large doily around her neck, looks like she could be Polly Holiday's older sister. I think I have Polly Holiday on the brain.

Mickey's being held up at gunpoint, and the people around him just laugh. What a sad, sick world we live in.

Lady in Blue's face is just like mine when I see a character at the parks.
Wait a minute - that mouse has too many fingers! He's a spy! Probably one of them Russkies, eh, Mikhail Waltovicch Mouski?

I almost forgot to shout out to the little tot in the red shorts outfit with his blue-feathered Tyrolean souvenir hat. That kid's got style! His perky plume is almost as tall as he is, and his outfit looks like a pants version of Little Orphan Annie's costume. I shall call him Robin Redshirt. I hope his own family got plenty of good pictures of him that day, too.

Also, on zoom-in I notice something that looks like an object safety pinned to the shirt of the little boy having his brains squeezed out by Mickeys left hand. Name tag for a tour? Emergency info in case he gets lost? A $1,000 bill like the Maverick brothers always kept pinned to the lining of their coats?
