Alice and Friends, July 1960

It's nice to see that big celebrities like Alice and the White Rabbit have managed to remain friends in spite of the intrusions of tabloids and paparazzi. From what I've heard, they still text each other regularly, and Alice thanked the WR in the liner notes of her trip-hop solo album, "Who In The World Am I?".

Back in July of 1960 (nine years after the release of the Disney movie) the two pals made an appearance at Disneyland, and even posed for photos with some of their fans. Fame hasn't gone to their heads!

I guess that everyone pretty much had to take a photo of the castle when they went to Disneyland. How else could they prove that they were really there?

Major-

That first image is such a 'charmer'. I certainly hope that's the bother's-? best side, as Alice seems to be upstaging most of his body. (And no swans in view...)

Thanks, Major.

The Castle wall looks so plain in gray. It would look much better if they made all the bricks multi-colored. And how about dumping a couple truck loads of glitter on the rooftops? Wouldn't that make it look more Magical? It would definitely make it look more like the castle of my Dreams and Wishes.

The first image is postcard worthy. I always enjoy a photo or postcard featuring the Disney characters at the Park. Thanks, Major.

TokyoMagic!, those are quite some Dreams and Wishes you have there. Personally, I was dreaming and wishing for the Castle to be turned into a Death Star covered with Galactic Empire "stardust".

@ TM! & Ken-

Either way - it sounds dreamy to me.

The castle and the Mark Twain, two photo ops almost no one can resist. I can't get enough of 'em though. Two things, I always pictured Alice as a brunette and I had no idea the rabbit wore glasses. You learn the coolest stuff at GDB. TM, I agree, personally, I think the powers that be should leave the classic attraction the heck alone. All glitter and no substance make the park a dull place. Major, I heard they were planning a comeback tour, they will be opening for the Jefferson Airplane.

The rabbit and I were always cool together. He never let fame change him. An old soul for sure.

Thanks Major.

Nanook, I do especially like to see Alice in the park. I have a really nice example that you’ll see soon!

TokyoMagic!, oh my gosh, Daveland put up a comparison photo a few days ago showing an area of the castle as it was years ago, and then a photo that he took. The castle stones are varying shades of pink and blue, and it looks INCREDIBLY horrible; doesn’t anybody there have any inkling of what is good or bad? And the problem is, if you asked any random Disney forum, the consensus would probably be, “I like it, it’s so colorful!”.

K. Martinez, looking through some unscanned slides, I have several batches that are heavy on characters, so you’ll enjoy those. Maybe they’ll tear down our castle (like they did in Hong Kong) so that they can build the ugliest abomination ever concocted.

Nanook, surely you mean “nightmarish”??

Jonathan, I’ve been so familiar with Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” that the blond with the blue dress is the way I always picture her. I’ve never read the book, is she described as a blond in it? The white rabbit only wears glasses to look smart, like Sylvester Stallone. And if it’s Jefferson Airplane rather than “Starship”, I’m cool with it!

JG, some say it’s because the White Rabbit came from a large family. It kept him grounded. Because he lived in a burrow, get it? How do I do it?

it's amazing how little the White Rabbit's costume has changed over the years, compared to other characters'. I have a picture of him from 2012 where he looks exactly the same. I think that's the most relaxed kids-with-characters pictures I've ever seen; it looks like they're just hanging out for the day.

It sounds like something horrible is happening to Walt's Castle - I'm almost afraid to find out more.

I think this is the most magical castle of all.

Always puzzled that the theme park White Rabbit looks more like a generic Disney bunny than like the movie's White Rabbit. It's like making the Cinderella mice look like Mickey.
