Disneyland's "Summer '67" Guidebook, Part Five

I think GDB readers have really been enjoying Ken Martinez's look at the wonderful "Summer '67" Disneyland guidebook. It is so full of unique and amazing photos of features that one doesn't usually see that it is one of the very best guidebooks! Here's Ken:

Summer ’67 Disneyland U.S.A. – Part 5 Entertainment, Shows and Exhibits.

Today is the fifth post in a six part series featuring the “Summer ’67 Disneyland, U.S.A” booklet.  Featured today are the free shows and exhibits at Disneyland as well as the live entertainment.  As usual, I’ll let the booklet pages tell the story.

As a kid, I remember there never being a shortage of entertainment at Disneyland.  Musicians, singers, dancers and marching bands seemed to be everywhere.

This is when the entertainment at Disneyland was top notch and involved human talent. What an era!

A bank on Main Street?  Who would’ve thought it.

There’s the INA Carefree Corner counter. Think I’ll pick up a few extra Disneyland Guides.

Disneyland Sponsors - Also Part of the Disneyland Story – Besides Coca-Cola, I don’t think any of these sponsors are at Disneyland anymore.

Next will be Part 6 the finale of the “Summer ’67 Disneyland, U.S.A” booklet.  Hope you enjoyed today’s post.

Thank you, Ken! There's one more post for this guidebook, but Ken has lots more to share.

Yay, more 1967 Disneyland wonderfulness! That crowd in front of the castle on New Year's Eve looks like Disneyland everyday of the week now. That wall in the Wurlitzer shop looks like it has a bunch of rear-lit photos on it. I seem to remember the "Preview of Future Attractions" exhibit in that same space, having the same type of rear-lit photos on the walls. I'm assuming they were just re-purposed after Wurlitzer moved out? And is that Tony Curtis inside that giant mushroom costume in the Fantasy On Parade pics?

@Ken and Major, thanks for all the work scanning and posting this guidebook.

I have a big memorabilia item that I have scanned, I am working on getting it into shape for the Major to post, so I know how much work is involved.

Really enjoying it.

Now that I think of it, maybe those photos weren't rear-lit, but the frames did hang in that same arrangement, if I'm remembering correctly.

And I forgot to say thanks for sharing more of this wonderful DL guide, Ken!

Hellooooooo? Where is everyone?

TokyoMagic!, yes, that's Tony Curtis inside that giant mushroom costume in the Fantasy On Parade pic. He was being chased all over the park by the mob, private detectives and his ex-wife's lawyer so he had to find some way to escape.

Whenever there's a "word from our sponsors" on TV, people usually leave the room to take a break. In this case the readers left the blog when the Disneyland sponsors showed up at the end of this post.

JG, thank you for the kind comments. I enjoy it. Now I'm looking forward to what you have to share with us on Major's blog.

@ Ken-

Part of 'Everyone' had a very busy day [and was too tired last night to chime-in at the top-'o-the-hour]; but that doesn't lessen the excitement. I love the "Titanic" boat - full of 'junior sailors' for the easter Parade. And how's about that mile-high beehive hairdo on the very first Entertainment pages, as a part of the "today's sound and teen dancing in New Tomorrowland".

Clearly - this was a very different time - and in many ways was equal parts 'Disneyland square' and 'cutting-edge modern'. I don't know if that balance can be struck in these times.

Thanks, Ken, for again providing more wonderful images from this great brochure. Looking forward to Part 6.

Nanook, Thanks for chiming in. I always enjoy your commentary. I like your comment "equal parts 'Disneyland square' and 'cutting-edge modern'." I totally understand that aspect of Disneyland past and always thought that gave the place some of its charm.

Thanks Ken!

Anyone count up how many sponsors there are? =)

Steve DeGaetano, you made my day! I was waiting for someone to chime in on that. You did it! I wonder how many folks are familiar with the origin of the famous club's name?
