Monorail Station, January 1965

While today's photos rate about an 80 on the Murk-O-Meter (on a scale established by Gustaf Von Murk in 1910), I still think that there is plenty to love about them.

You might think that our photographer wanted to capture a candid snapshot of his beloved Grandma, but I am pretty sure that the lady in the blue coat just happened to be in the middle of the frame when the blue Monorail passed by. As far as the photographer was concerned, it was now or never. And the old lady didn't have the courtesy to dive onto the floor when she saw the camera! Some people.

This is definitely an angle that we don't see very often (if ever); an action star could easily jump from that yellow Skyway bucket onto the top of the speeding Monorail!

Bubble dome! Bubble dome! If I am elected President of the United States, I will decree that (henceforth), all automobiles, buses, and trains will be required to have bubble domes.

I only have a few photos taken aboard the Monorail, so a new addition is always welcome. The person on the left is saying, "Hey! Somebody is driving away with our car!".  Where is Tom Servo?

I want the popcorn box that's sitting in the ashtray in photo #1. I also want the ashtray, even though I don't smoke. Smoking is bad for you! It causes.....oh, never mind.

Major-

Poor Grandma - such vitriol and yet she's properly dressed with gloves. She's even color-coordinated her outfit to match Monorail blue, too-!

Thanks, Major.

Major Pepperidge for president! Let the great bubble dome era begin!

Speaking of bubble domes, one of my favorite Hot Wheels cars I had as a kid was a blue Silhouette die cast "Ed Roth" hot rod. I loved it.

@K Martinez. I collected the lime green metallic Silhouette and the Beatnik Bandit Hot Wheels in orange metallic, both with domes by Ed Roth.

I still have them.

Domes Forever!

I love these pics from inside the station. The window view is wonderful too.

Thanks Major.

Looking at that first pic again this morning, I realized that those people would have all just come off of the "Speedramp" that lead up to the old Monorail station. In fact, that man in the background may not have stepped off of it yet. Super rare....and cool pic, Major!

@JG - All my Hot Wheels die-cast vehicles and accessories were lost or gone by the time I was a teenager. And I had a ton of them. In the last ten years, I re-bought about two dozen Hot Wheels cars I had as a kid and in all the colors I originally had them in back in the late 1960's-70's. Oh, what you can find on Ebay!

I got my bubble dome when my hair fell out.

Nice photos today, TGIF

i'm just going to go ahead on and assume that the blue-cardiganned, white-gloved Grandma IS an action star who just jumped out of the yellow Skyway bucket. All Grandmas are action stars until proven otherwise.

Be careful with the Bubble Dome, president Pepperidge - remember how that whole Teapot Dome thing worked out for President Harding.

Tom Servo can;t come back; he doesn't know how it works!
