Casey Jr. & Storybook Land, October 1967

Here's a nice look at the patchwork quilt hills and banks of Storybook Land; I like the cross-stitching and variety of patterns, just like grandma's old quilt. That's right, grandma made her quilts out of dirt and stone and plants. She was an odd duck, but we loved her. After years of only riding the canal boats, I think it's high time I took a Casey Jr. Circus Train around this charming area.

And speaking of Casey, there he is ...coming down the track, with a smoky stack! He's here to thrill every Jack and Jill, don't you know. This photo gives you a good idea of just how big the miniature Cinderella's Castle is.

Lines were so short at Disneyland the week Cars Land opened to the public that I was able to ride both the Storybook Land Canal Boats & Casey Jr. Circus Train back-to-back in under 30 minutes.

I hadn't been on these two attractions for well over a decade and forgot how charming a creation Storybook Land is. Sometimes there’s more joy to be found in the simplicity of attractions like these than some of the high tech thrills found today.

(Wheeee....time for lemonade and Cracker Jack!)

Wow, I am jealous... Disneyland in June with short lines?! Meanwhile, I often wonder if kids who have been raised to expect high tech thrills can appreciate the charm of a little boat (or train) ride like this.

TokyoMagic!, I love lemonade, and I love Cracker Jack, but not together!

Major, On the other hand, Matterhorn Bobsleds had a long wait time and for that I used Single Rider.

I love this ride. The details on the cars are amazing!.

I want a scale model for my yard but they bring a king's ransom when they show up on ebay.

This guy has a sweet setup with Casey Jr and all the Disneyland railroads in his yard.

I really like Walt's idea of having a balance of exciting rides and relaxing ones. Maybe you wouldn't want to take Grandma and Grandpa on the Matterhorn, but they could really enjoy themselves on Casey Jr. or the Jungle Boats or the Columbia or the Mark Twain on a beautiful southern California day. The man really did think of everything!

The new regime isn't thinking of anything and they're destroying everything that Walt did "think" of.

These rides have always been special in my memory, and I recently found the pictures of my visit in 1965 with me riding each of these.

I love the little models and how the two rides entwine around the same backdrops without interfering or conflicting.

The quiet aspect is most desirable to me, sometimes just admiring is all you need to do.

I'm always in fear that these will be "improved" out of existence, although I do appreciate the addition of Aladdin and Little Mermaid to the script. Even though Mr. Toad had to give way, his house remained.

Thank you Major, for a look back at the best era of youth.
